Engineering Outreach (open source)
July 15, 2011 9:35 AM

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an individual consultant or vendor to support growing its engineering team, with focus on attracting strong candidates for open positions by employing non-traditional strategies such as coding challenges, diligently researching and reaching out to individual candidates, organizing presence at relevant meetups, raising awareness of opportunities via relevant listservs, etc. Combined skillset in engineering and community management/outreach is ideal.

The way my boss puts it: "a talented contractor to engage to do some sustained, full-time or near full-time engineering outreach for us, as well as development of new hiring/outreach programs such as code challenges. This would be likely someone with a background in online communities, ideally also good engineering chops to know what to look for. This isn't to replace but supplement the work that HR is already doing on our behalf with recruiters, LinkedIn research, and so forth."

The contract will commence on August 1, 2011 at the latest, for an initial duration of 3 months. The contract will end on October 31, 2011 unless it is extended. All software developed through this contract will be publicly available as GPLv2-licensed open source software.
