Experienced Django Developer
July 19, 2011 1:13 PM
The Participatory Culture Foundation is looking for an experienced Django developer to work on Miro Community. This is a great gig for someone who wants to build free and open source software to create social change. You’ll be building features to help more communities make use of video on the web for education, civic involvement, and entertainment.
Here's what makes this job special:
- The code is organized into modularized Django apps with test suites.
- You will be one of two developers; your co-workers contribute graphic design, outreach, product management, system administration, and sales. (In other words: you make stuff great, and your team makes it beautiful and famous.)
- The application currently operates at scale, serving thousands of sites.
- Your work is open source, so you can show it off to your peers and easily get help from others.
- You interact with a community of users -- paid, free, and open source -- that are using your work to communicate about topics they care about.
- Work remotely -- as long as you are responsive and productive, you can pretty much work anywhere.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building sites with Django
- Good grasp of developing for the web: http, caching, security, javascript
- Experience scaling up a web application and with profiling web applications to increase performance
- Confidence tackling the occasional systems issue: memcached, S3, celery
- Good communication skills for working with designers, developers and project managers in other organizations (partners, clients)
We are looking for an enthusiastic developer willing to love Miro Community as much as we do: you'll proactively improve the platform, address bugs that users hit, and come up with suggestions for how to make it better.
To apply, send a resume (txt or rtf) to jobs at pculture dot org. If you’d like to learn a bit about how we work, check out git repository (1), look at our Bugzilla timeline (2), and see some current sites listed at mirocommunity.org.
