Helping with importing a very old Wordpress WXR file
February 11, 2018 8:39 AM
I have a very old self-hosted Wordpress ~2.8.4 blog that, for various reasons, I cannot upgrade or even poke around at the FTP easily. I plan to end my contract with my current web hosting company and just run my blog from a hosted install, but even that is proving tough, so I need help!
I can export a WXR from my current blog, but the format is so old that the latest Wordpress installs will not recognise it (e.g. "There does not appear to be any authors in your WordPress import file.").
I can think of a couple of ways to resolve this, such as running the WXR through an upgrade chain of older Wordpresses, or just mucking about with it manually. But I'm not terribly good at that and I suspect someone more familiar with Wordpress could do this way faster.
Let me know if you can help!
