Organization: Incorporated in 2001 and recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the American Internal Revenue Service, Earth Rights Institute (ERI) takes an innovative approach to join education, advocacy and research in building ecologically, economically and culturally sustainable communities in some of the world’s poorest communities. Earth Rights Institute advocates a model of development that supports the re-localization of development expertise. We believe that in order to empower communities of the global south to manage and direct their own development, strategies and expert knowledge must be conceived locally. ERI is a United Nations NGO affiliate for ECOSOC, UN Habitat, UNCSD, and UN Finance and Development.
Qualifications: Experience with Drupal is a must, PHP programming and a desire to work on UI issues for users with limited English proficiency and bandwidth are a plus. At minimum, volunteer should be able to keep Drupal installation up-to-date and provide technical support for staff and users. If the volunteer is interested, additional improvements including customizations to Drupal theme and interface would be greatly appreciated. The course caters primarily to users around the world, some of whom have limited English proficiency and bandwidth. Volunteers with interest in usability issues given special consideration.
