Web Developer
September 6, 2006 10:43 AM
We are a high-end studio focused on the marriage of form and function. We approach every project with a fresh perspective and open minds, and strive to determine the most appropriate solution for the task at hand.
We are opening a Portland studio and looking for a developer that's on the same page - someone who can work with our creatives to realize their designs in near pixel-perfect form. This person will advise creatives during the design phase to be sure designs are executable, and recommend the best technical solution to bring that design to life on the web.
You should have advanced skills in HTML and CSS layout, and be up to snuff with the latest web standards and accessibility. You code by hand and know how to use existing resources to build on for custom results. You are able to work with variety of web tecnologies: PHP, JavaScript and maybe even a little JSP. You are interested in ideas behind Web 2.0, but realistic enough to know that they won't solve all the problems.
You pay obsessive attention to detail. You test your work in all target environments, and make sure it deprecates elegantly. On the client side, you make sure that your code displays consistently and on the server side you make sure that it runs well and is maintainable. You collaborate well with other developers to support integration with custom applications built for your site.
You execute challenging designs without resorting to unstable technology. You are not a platform/browser snob. You make looking under the hood a pleasure with your nicely formatted, well commented code. You do all the debugging on your projects so that no one else has to. You know how to chart out reasonable deadlines, and then stick to them.
In a perfect world, you also have an eye and are able to make decisions based on existing design standards. That is to say, you can roll out an entire site without necessarily needing to see every page laid out.
Finally, you play well with others, accept constructive feedback, show up to work, and don't leave a mess in the kitchen. We are demanding, but if you're the right person, you'll feel at ease here. We are good, down-to-earth people doing interesting work. Apply with resume to jobs@finedesigngroup.com. Include a link to your portfolio or URLs to examples of your work.
payscale: commensurate with experience
job type: full-time
