Frontend Engineer
March 1, 2018 12:42 PM

At Occipital, we’re working on spatial computing — using computer vision to 3D reconstruct and understand your surroundings so that software can operate over real world spaces. We’ve launched many products in this area, from hardware like Structure Sensor to software platforms like Occipital Tracking and apps such as Canvas. Our customers range from 10,000-employee enterprises to individual doctors, interior decorators, and hobbyists.

We are seeking a frontend engineer who is dedicated to creating engaging, attractive, performant user experiences for both Occipital’s customers and our team. In this role, you’ll use modern best practices for building interfaces in HTML/CSS/JavaScript while synthesizing input from multiple internal stakeholders to design, develop, and release new features, pages, and other functionality.

Occipital’s web team operates in a low-ego, highly collaborative, and focused environment — we take and give lots of feedback with the aim of the best idea winning. We strive to fix things twice and value pragmatism. The Occipital web team works every day to improve and add features to our growing list of products and services in the augmented/virtual/mixed reality space.

Candidates must be located or willing to re-locate to Boulder, Colorado or San Francisco, California. Compensation will be based on experience and skill, commensurate with market rates and will include both salary and equity in Occipital. Occipital is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment to our employees and welcome input from candidates and employees on how we can enhance our inclusiveness.

Responsibilities:

* Architect and develop customer-focused web applications from start to finish
* Collaborate across internal teams (such as customer support and graphic design)
* Anticipate and proactively solve UX issues with inclusive design
* Take strong ownership of your projects and drive them to completion
* Work closely with stakeholders to design and implement features

Qualifications:

* Detailed understanding of the DOM, HTML, CSS, Javascript without relying on frameworks — with live examples or video/screenshots you can show us
* Ability to create clean, attractive designs for pages you’re working on
* Working knowledge of Python or similar server-side language
* Well-versed in modern techniques and best practices for using graphics and video on the web (e.g. H264, when to use JPEG vs PNG)
* Experience building customer-focused WebGL applications
* Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with remote team members
* Familiarity with a relational database (we use Postgres)
* (Bonus) Familiarity with Django
* (Bonus) Familiarity with Docker
* (Bonus) Familiarity with Vue.js, PWAs
* (Bonus) Experience with computer vision, augmented/virtual/mixed reality

payscale: commensurate with market rates, includes equity
