Call for submissions for women's writing anthology
March 15, 2022 9:02 AM

Seeking personal essays written by women, from 1,500-5,000 words.

Upcoming themes include the natural world (deadline 6/1/22) and toxic workplaces (9/1/22).

This anthology series is intended to amplify women’s voices, but the successful essay need not overtly confront gender issues. Essays may be politically conscious, but please avoid didactic writing and polemics. Seek first to connect with the reader and only second to persuade. We are looking for strong, relatable voices, engaging stories, rich sensory detail, and thoughtful reflection. No academic essays or straight journalism.

Payment of $.02/word will be offered for previously unpublished work. Previously published work will be considered but not compensated. All rights other than anthology are retained by the author.

Simultaneous submissions are acceptable as long as you withdraw your piece immediately upon acceptance elsewhere. Please wait until you’ve heard back about one piece before submitting another. Response time will generally be 2-3 weeks.

Send submissions to: women.write.about@gmail.com. Please include a brief bio in the body of the email, and mention where and when your essay was published if applicable. Essays should use classic William Shunn format and be included as an attachment in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .odf, or .pdf.

Your email address will be placed on our mailing list unless you tell us not to. Emails will be sent only to notify of anthology publication and to solicit additional writing for future anthology themes.
