Assistant Professor of Music
November 7, 2007 8:09 PM

Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College consortium, is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Music in the area of ethnomusicology.

While the specific area of expertise is open, we are seeking a scholar whose work complements that of current Hampshire College faculty. We are particularly interested in ethnomusicologists who specialize in popular
music (apart from jazz and improvisation studies), musics of the Middle East, India, Asia, and other regions. Our unique music program offers students the opportunity to study, compose, and perform jazz/improvised music, traditional and contemporary popular musics, folk and world musics, computer music/audio art, and experimental music in an interdisciplinary liberal arts context. Preference will be given to candidates who have
experience in leading a music ensemble.

The successful candidate will have completed the PhD. College level teaching experience is preferred. This position involves substantial student advising responsibilities.

Hampshire College is committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community and strongly encourages applications from women and minority candidates.

Position begins July 1, 2008. We offer a competitive salary and benefit program. Application review will begin on November 15 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of interest describing teaching and professional experience, curriculum vita, a list of course proposals and syllabi for two courses, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation to:
