Assistant Web Designer (Temp), Guggenheim Museum

The world-renowned Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is seeking a temporary Assistant Web Designer/Production for its Publications Department. This temporary position may lead to regular employment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Web Designer/Production is responsible for designing and developing new content within the Museum’s Web site, while maintaining that all departments are using design standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, make image updates/corrections, and input new content within Web site Content Management System (CMS)
Design and develop web pages with XHTML/CSS/Flash based on established style guide and for new projects and microsites
Work with Web team and all departments to gather content for the Web site—images, texts, etc.
Edit and optimize images
Assist with deployment of new Website
Interface with third party Web design firm and developers as necessary
Provide design and development of third party products/add ons
Work with all departments to ensure design standards are maintained site-wide
Research and work with Web team and all departments on expanding and developing content and new features for the Web site
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to write standards-based XHTML, CSS (beyond WYSIWYG editors); understanding of cross-browser issues and their workarounds
Ability to animate in Flash
Knowledge of a scripting language, preferably JavaScript or ActionScript.
Proficiency with design software, including Adobe CS3 software suite. Experience with Quark/InDesign a plus
An online portfolio required, indicating your role all projects
Technical familiarity with new Internet technologies such as RSS feeds, blogs, podcasts, etc.
Prior experience using a web-based CMS such as Drupal or Joomla a plus
