Volunteer FTP tutor/fixer

This is a one-off job for someone who is trustworthy and knowledgeable in FTP.
I cannot access my old website with my new FTP client - I seem able to login, but cannot see the remote files even though the website still displays properly online.... I will send you all the login info, and you will try to explain to me what I am doing wrong, and walk me through getting myself properly set up to do FTP with that site.
