At Six Apart, our developers create the award-winning blogging software and services Movable Type, TypePad and Vox, and our Services team puts those tools to work powering some of the best, most influential, sites on the web. As part of our Services team (formerly Apperceptive) your work will be split between building on Movable Type, Typepad, and custom web app development. And you'll work in a seriously cool office in New York City where your coworkers have four-digit, or even three-digit MeFi user numbers.
You'll build sites your mom has heard of, sites your friends use every day, and sites that are helping invent or reinvent the way media works. Our clients include AMC TV, Gothamist, NBC, the Washington Post, Serious Eats and dozens more top media/Internet names.
We build those sites using development practices that honor our love of both great code and great design. Our primary development languages are Perl and PHP, with some Python in the mix as well. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing application functionality, implementing and maintaining back-end Perl code, and analyzing and improving web site performance. The services team works closely with clients and colleagues in product management to design, create and deploy create innovative applications.

Here's what you need to bring with you:
- A passion for making the web better.
- Innovative ideas, respectfully communicated.
- 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
- BS/CS or equivalent.
- Exceptional programmer with experience writing high-volume web
applications.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Deep experience with Perl strongly preferred.
- Experience with performance engineering and service-oriented architectures preferred.
- Experience with memcached and perlbal preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Passion about online communities and communications; experience using social media.
- A appreciation of business requirements, and the ability to work
collaboratively with product management to create compelling products.
- Detail-oriented and highly attentive to commitments and schedules.
