Design the logo/banner for a non profit meetup group

Hello.
I help with a small open-source software project meetup group, and we probably have enough members to have some kind of a logo and a custom banner.
The idea so far:
Banner: a city skyline + tech project name or logo
Logo: state borders + tech project icon for meetup location?
But of course any other suggestions/ideas are highly welcome too.
