Two full-time tenure-track 9-month positions
Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI
Position Summary
Principal responsibilities include upper and lower-level composition and teaching literary theory, introduction to literature, or other literature classes per semester as needed; holding office hours, providing meaningful and timely feedback to students, advising, providing service to the university, college and/or department, participation in assessment and remaining current in content area(s).
Required Qualifications
--Ph.D. in English, Literary Studies, or related field.
(Candidates must have PhD in hand by August 1, 2015)
--Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate writing
Additional Qualifications to Be Considered
Preference given to candidates with undergraduate teaching experience, graduate credit and/or publication in one or more of the following:
literary theory, literature of diverse cultures, cultural studies or media studies, popular culture and literature, creative writing, writer’s workshops, teaching of secondary Ed. English or experience with publications.
Essential Duties
--Teach face-to-face and on-line classes in literature and writing courses (a 4/4 teaching load). There may be an opportunity to teach additional literature courses appropriate to credentials.
--Participate in ongoing professional development and service.
--Participate in curriculum development.
--Contribute to the ongoing development of the department through administration, committee work, community outreach, leadership, and scholarship.
--Effective teaching by way of effective communication, assessment of student learning and adaptation to various levels of student preparation.
--Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials.
--Use teaching-related technologies when determined appropriate.
--Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
--Meet with classes at their scheduled times.
