Convert a website from Wordpress to Jekyll
May 15, 2012 10:41 AM

I have a website that is currently running on Wordpress. Despite all the optimization we've done so far, the site is fairly slow and also badly in need of an update. We rarely write blog posts but actively develop statistical software and need to showcase code activity from github and tutorials rather than posts. We'd like to switch to Jekyll Bootstrap for two reasons:

a) Make the site static and hence faster
b) Write posts/pages in Markdown and deploy via git. As we develop code and create README files (in markdown), we'd like to quickly deploy those simultaneously as a page to the website.

My host has already set up Jekyll for me and I've given this a shot and it works. I could do this on my own but unfortunately I am so swamped that I don't have time for this.

What I need from you:
Take the twitter bootstrap theme and set it up for Jekyll with at most 3-4 template pages.
Optimize a couple of fonts (we mostly share open source code so css that makes code highly readable is the goal). example 1. example 2.

That's it. For someone who has worked with Jekyll before, this shouldn't be too time consuming and as someone who has worked in web development before, this will not be an endless back and forth with me asking for new stuff.

If you're interested and capable, feel free to drop me an informal memail. I can show you our existing site, the current test version of the Jekyll site and tell you exactly what needs to get done. You can decide from there.

This is a not-for-profit academic website where we develop open source software. We have limited funding at the moment but would be happy to work out a reasonable fee (so no low balling you).
