Summary
Implement, extend and maintain websites, database-driven (PHP+MySQL) web applications and web-based business tools in a Mac OS X environment. This is an entry-level position that will give the motivated candidate room to grow their experience and skill set in a fun, creative work environment.
Key Roles
* Maintain, troubleshoot and extend existing client websites and web applications.
* Take part in collaborating with staff from various departments within the agency to extend and maintain web-based business tools.
* Take part in project scoping, estimation, design, execution and documentation.
* Actively pursue new skills and learn new technologies and standards and share that new knowledge with the appropriate audience within the agency.
* Perform various other job-related tasks as needed.
Education
BA or BS degree in Computer Science or Interactive Design, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience designing and maintaining websites and/or web applications, and will excel at doing so without the use of WYSIWYG tools such as Dreamweaver. The ideal candidate will also have a strong desire to learn object-oriented PHP and MySQL development skills if they do not already posses them.
Required Skills
* 1-4 years of experience with standards-based (HTML+CSS) web design
* Understanding of how and why to write markup that validates to W3C standards and recommendations
* Ability to write code and markup in a clean and well-organized manner
* Basic experience with at least one interpreted programming language (Javascript, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)
* Basic knowledge and understanding of graphic design principles
* Experience using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to build web graphics
* Ability to balance pragmatism and practicality when making design and development decisions
* Passion for creating great user experiences and useful tools on the web
* Thoroughness and an eye for detail
* Excellent organizational skills
Desired Skills
* Knowledge of the goals and principles of Progressive Enhancement
* Knowledge of the principles of object-oriented development
* Experience with MySQL
* Experience with Apache
* Experience with XML, web services and/or AJAX
* Experience building rich DHTML interfaces
* Experience with Flash
* Experience with Mac OS X (server & client)
* Experience with AppleScript
