Student System Administrator

The OSU Open Source Lab is looking for one to two student systems engineers. This position is part time during school, and full time during the summer if you are so inclined. We prefer students who have more time left in their program (at least three terms) to help reduce graduation turnover, so if you're a first-year student, don't hesitate!
You: Enjoy using open source software. Install Linux at home to play around with Web servers, file servers, etc. Aren't afraid to use the command line to get things done. Would like to work closely with developers of cool open source projects. Are looking for a challenging job where you'll have the opportunity to use your problem-solving skills while maintaining production servers in a real-world hosting environment.
Us: The Oregon State University Open Source Lab provides hosting to some of the world's largest and most recognizable open source projects including: the Linux Foundation, Freenode, Drupal, the Apache Software Foundation, the Python Software Foundation and many more! We hire and train student systems engineers to assist with creating and maintaining a professional hosting infrastructure for our partners.

Duties and responsibilities: Working on the infrastructure that powers much of the open source ecosystem. Responsible for racking, deploying, maintaining and design of various parts of our infrastructure. Interacts with the community and clients via email and IRC on a daily basis on tasks such as troubleshooting issues and deploying new services.
Qualifications: Must have some basic experience using Linux on the command line including installing Linux, installing packages and deploying basic services for fun and play (i.e. Samba, Apache, etc). Must have a basic understanding of how Linux works and the basics of operating systems. Must have at least three (3) terms remaining in their program and be able to work during summer this year.
Length of employment: Indefinite depending on performance and school eligibility.
This position is only open to students attending any university in Oregon! (However, preferences will obviously be given to those that can work on-site or exceptional candidates that will not require in-person mentoring).
payscale: hourly, low teens
