Principal Planner or Planner
A large planning entity is seeking to hire a principal planner or planner (title commensurate with experience and qualifications) to work in the planning unit under the direction of the planning director.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a degree in planning, and must have a NJ professional planning license or Planner in Training certificate. The office within which you will work is dedicated to assisting municipalities and counties with achieving well-managed growth. Accordingly, the candidate should enjoy working with people, including the general public and local and county representatives. They should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of planning in New Jersey in accordance with the Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL), Local Redevelopment and Housing Law (LRHL), State Development and Redevelopment Plan, Pinelands, Meadowlands, Highlands and CAFRA. In addition, the candidate should have a general understanding of other laws affecting land use and development in New Jersey. The candidate must be a team-player, self-motivated and be able to work independently on regional assignments.
Responsibilities will include:
o To improve planning throughout New Jersey by establishing partnerships with municipal and county officials and planning staff on a regional basis.
o To assist counties and municipalities through the land use, transportation, affordable housing and environmental protection planning processes.
o To continue to work with counties and municipalities to improve upon existing planning initiatives.
o To assist the office in writing planning research, reports, and project proposals.
o Conduct research, prepare written reports, and contribute to the implementation of the land use plans.
o Participate in inter-agency committees, taskforces, and other forums for coordinating state agency plans, programs, investments, and rules within the state.
o To provide support and technical assistance to the municipalities, counties, regional planning organizations, and others.
o To gather, analyze, and synthesize economic, demographic, and land use data
o Occasionally attend meetings within municipalities and counties during evenings and weekends
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employment benefits include health care, retirement plan, and paid holiday, vacation and sick time.
