Assistant Director, Development Research and Prospect Management

The Assistant Director, Development Research and Prospect Management is a vital member of The New School Development and Alumni Relations Office and is responsible for the overall coordination and production of research related information on prospects and donors. Working with the Chief Development Officer and Assistant Vice President for Development, the Assistant Director will develop an overall strategic plan for prospect management include planning, implementing, and directing a comprehensive program that addresses activities associated with identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals and organizations.
The Assistant Director:
-Maintains an overall knowledge of the University’s top prospects to assist Directors of Development in establishing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
-Responds to inquiries from University administrators, Directors of Development, and Deans with concisely written briefing report/profiles containing key information: biographical information, financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, areas of interests and other University affiliations
-Develops and monitors the progression of prospect portfolios in coordination with Directors of Development
-Prioritizes research tasks, completes the request or delegates it to the Research Assistant, and delivers finished products in a timely fashion
-Coordinates and analyzes screening results for key populations on a yearly cycle
-Creates and executes tools and resources for the monitoring of major donor pipeline and prospect portfolios
-Monitors all changes in prospects status codes and communicates with Directors on next steps and expected outcomes
-Serves as a partner to Institutional Giving team on research and prepares detailed profiles on foundations and corporations; identifies potential prospects for programs/projects on an as needed basis
-Actively identifies new prospects and potential new trustees and board members and coordinates with appropriate staff on next steps
-Proactively monitors University event schedules and administrators’ calendars to ensure that briefing memos and reports are available
Schedules and conducts quarterly prospect review meetings with each Director of Development
-Provides weekly and special request reports and data relating to prospect management, Directors’ activities, and pipeline
-Other duties as assigned by Senior Director, Assistant Vice President and Chief Development Officer
Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
-4 or more years of experience in the non-profit or higher education sectors with demonstrated prospect research skills and increased responsibility
-Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize high volume of biographical and financial information from a variety of sources
-Organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work independently
-Must be able to write concise research documents with attention to accuracy and detail
-Personal initiative, entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, flexibility and strong problem solving skills
-Ability to work cooperatively with diverse constituents
-Ability to maintain confidentiality
