Mechanical Engineering Co-Op
September 16, 2010 11:56 AM
My department is hiring a mechanical engineering co-op for January-August, 2011. Applicants should be college students working towards a B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or related fields.
This position is an opening at The MITRE Corporation, a non-profit Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC). We are responsible for systems engineering research and development for various branches of the US Government, including the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Homeland Security, and Justice Department.
The position involves engineering development and sustainment work for the US Air Force. Much of the USAF fleet is aging, and the aircraft require periodic upgrades and modifications to maintain technical superiority and extend their useful lifetimes. Mechanical engineers on these programs are responsible for determining how these modifications affect performance and flight characteristics, airworthiness/safety of flight, and utilization of on-board power and cooling resources. They must also look at the suitability of any proposed new equipment to ensure it can withstand the severe environments that can be found on an aircraft.
Applicants must be US citizens.
payscale: TBD
job type: internship
