After School Program Assistant
Hours of work:
Part-time Position, 15 hours a week,
Afternoon position between 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Mon-Fri
Supervision and reporting:
Reports to Center Director
Duties:
• Supervise an After School program for youth ages 5-11 (4 days), and assist with teen program, ages 12-15 1 day a week.
• Assist in developing and bringing structure to center activities.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program.
• Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity
• Prepare curriculum and materials provided by the program.
• Create an engaging environment fostering a sense of belonging.
• Support students in making positive choices; administer discipline when appropriate.
• Engage children and youth by implementing and following lesson plans.
• Promote positive interactions between volunteers and students.
• Maintain student safety by taking attendance and reviewing sign-in sheets.
• Identify student needs and communicate to Director and parents, as appropriate.
• Commit to the program by arriving on-time, every day and completing tasks.
• Participate in staff development activities.
• Ensure student safety by assisting in set up and break down, for a clean environment.
Skills and qualifications
• At least six months experience working with a group of 10 or more students
• Advanced Math and/or English skills (K – 8)
• Experience working with children and teens
• Promote and practice safe and neat work habits
• Ability to work without direct supervision
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for a chauffeurs’ license
• Trustworthy and dependable, ability to be bonded
• Time management, planning, and organization skills
• Knowledge of computers and software desirable
• Follows directions, but takes initiative when necessary
• Establishes authority, with appropriate discipline measures
Education/Experience
• High school diploma minimum, some college preferred
• Professional child care certificate desired
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $10.00 to $12.00 per hour, based on experience
