Sustainable Office Internship

The Union of Concerned Scientists, the leading science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and safer world, is seeking a summer research intern in our Berkeley CA office to help us make our business practices more environmentally friendly.
Responsibilities for the summer intern include: researching and reporting on environmentally friendly office products and furniture and researching and reporting how other organizations measure and report their carbon use. The goal of this research will be to help UCS create a program to measure our own carbon and global warming emissions, so that we can ultimately become carbon neutral. The intern will work with UCS staff to develop a scope for the project, and, time pending, create a final report on results. The report will be used by UCS to guide our office policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
• The successful applicant will be a student or recent graduate in a bachelors or masters program in Environmental Science, Social Science or related field.
• Strong research skills and an interest in the environment are required.
• Ability to work independently
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Knowledge of Climate Change is a plus
Benefits to the Intern:
This position will provide students who are interested in working in the non-profit field with direct experience working for a nationally recognized non-profit. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to provide key support on a project that will have a lasting impact on UCS operations.
The position will full time, based in our Berkeley Office. A stipend is available for this position. The position will start June 4th and end August 3rd (dates are somewhat flexible).
