The Senior Web Development Specialist is responsible for the layout, visual appearance and usability of the Library Journals, LLC (Library Journal, School Library Journal, The Horn Book) domains, websites and blogs. S/He will also troubleshoot issues with existing or developed systems, and work with the appropriate internal and external resources to resolve those issues.

S/He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day production and maintenance of our websites and blogs, including managing Site Support tickets by prioritizing and implementing changes or fixes that are requested (within reason and relative to the business objectives). S/He will maintain clear communication with the Sales/Marketing, Editorial, and Production Staff to ensure that their online requests and issues are being resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.

S/He will be responsible for maintaining accuracy and visual aesthetic of all web content and for developing and facilitating new web content. Such content includes: Site and page restructures, Blogs, Templates, and Unique advertising and sponsorship opportunities.

This position reports to the Director, Customer Experience and Web Operations.

Specific Tasks/Responsibilities:

Maintaining and upgrading websites for optimal user experience, content accuracy and ad placement
Implementing code and grid-specific changes on site templates (high-level code work)
Making necessary code changes to the websites based on usability testing results
Coordinating and working in tandem with external developers when necessary
Graphic design including the creation of images, buttons, Flash and other graphics for the sites
Troubleshooting issues related to content, digital media, ad serving and newsletter creation/deployment through Site Support

Skills Necessary to Perform these Tasks

Expertise in CSS, XHTML, Javascript, cross platform/browser and email program issues, information architecture, web standards compliance, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver
Experience with self-hosted Wordpress installations, individual and multi-user
Knowledge of Web / Graphical Design
Familiarity with various online CMS, Newsletter deployment systems, and online advertising platforms
Must have proven track record in handling multiple tasks and projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with continuous project stream
Excellent writing/editing ability and overall strength in communications, project management, and organizational skills
Works well under the pressure of tight deadlines and changing demands
