80+wpm remote audio typist in Cornwall. Also a kick butt virtual assistant with a high geek quotient.
December 15, 2010 8:02 AM

In 2010 I've moved from a city to a beautiful rural area with little work available and the need to stay close to home to care for a partner with cancer. I'm looking to get back into the work I love and to help save Mefites money with my efficient work and my low rates.

AUDIO TYPING

I am an experienced, accurate and fast audio typist currently testing at 80+ words per minute. I am based in Cornwall and am personally equipped with an Olympus AS-2400 transcription kit, a pair of JVM NC-80 noise cancelling headphones, an HP laptop equipped with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 with a USB pedal, and a reliable and speedy BT broadband connection.

I have extensive audio typing, minuting and transcription experience. This experience includes one on one interviews, disciplinary hearings, and large scale meetings. The largest meeting I have transcribed had 14 attendees and I produced an accurate transcription with named participants.

I am a native speaker of American English and have experience with many English and Scottish accents, accents from the Indian subcontinent, and a broad variety of regional and international accents. I'm also fluent in Spanish and have transcribed Mexican and Puerto Rican Spanish speakers. My noise cancelling headphones make it easier for me to handle poor quality recordings and my up to date software and equipment enable me to accept any audio file or cassette.

I genuinely enjoy audio typing and believe it is an important link between the productive dialogue of people and the digital world in which information must be managed in the present day. My high level of education, my broad technical proficiency, and my diverse work experience give me a level of literacy and understanding that increases my accuracy and efficiency as an audio typist.

VIRTUAL ASSISTANT

I see a good virtual assistant as a remote Everything But The Kitchen Sink - a creative, skilled and efficient person who can wrangle the utter randomness thrown up daily by the average business.

Administration - the work of keeping an office running - has been my profession for 15 years. I'm a leader and an organiser in this field, and have administered everything from a busy community not for profit to a political campaign. These days I'm in a rural area supporting a partner with chronic illness and am looking to do this interesting and essential work from home. I'm experienced at everything from diary (schedule) management to data entry to tech support, and I have the technical capacity and knowledge to make it happen remotely.

I'm a good and clear writer. I can draft your letters, write your copy, and communicate with your colleagues and clients. I'm top notch on the phone - I can close a sale or calm down an upset customer.

I can design and maintain your website - I'm proficient in Photoshop, HTML, and CSS, and can do some Javascript and PHP as well as Apache server admin.

I can help you keep track of your books - I've done this for a charity shop and several flavours of office - and I can help you develop systems to make your record keeping more efficient.

One of my big skills is the ability to learn and navigate complex systems quickly, so I can research your needs for you and help you build your capacity. I've done this for everything from an anti school closure campaign to a car park looking to upgrade its ticketing systems.

I'm reliable as hell, I anticipate needs, and I work extremely well independently or as part of a group. I'm calm, curious, and have a great sense of humour.

My CV and references, identity docs, and a copy of my enhanced CRB check (background check) are available upon request.
