Web developer to install shopping cart on record label website

Dreamboat Records, home to music by a bunch of folk and electronic acts from the UK and a couple of indie film soundtracks, is looking for someone to replace our rather unprofessional and fiddly Paypal-based shopping cart with something more modern, user-friendly (for both customer and order picker), and (probably) self-hosted. Our main goal with this upgrade is to make it more straightforward to pick and ship orders, and audit sales afterward. At the moment, our total dependence on the Paypal interface (as well as its payment processing) makes that a pain. For the time being, we're happy to continue to process the credit card payments themselves with Paypal, but suggestions of alternative payment gateways — that will work for a company that is based in the UK but accepts payments from worldwide — are very welcome. Keep in mind that we need to audit both total revenue and revenue after the payment company takes their fee. In general this varies from transaction to transaction in a non-trivial way, so I'm hoping payment gatways report both numbers. Our website is hosted on a Mediatemple Gridserver, which will give you an idea of what it is capable of, but I'm happy to answer specific questions about the technical parameters. We're told that Ubercart/Drupal/Python and ActiveMerchant/Rails/Ruby are the preferred way of doing things these days, but perhaps you know better. Our needs seem fairly standard, so this should just be a case of installing something, integrating it with a payment gateway, and perhaps setting up an example product or two so I can take it from there. We'd love to get this done before the end of the year. [This position was previously advertised on MeFi in a rather different form (involving authorized MP3 downloads). We ran out of time to set that up for the project we needed it for, and went with a pre-rolled solution.]

Budding, all-round web guy and interested party

Hi, this isn't so much a job opportunity, more of an opportunity for someone who has the creative chops, and the desire to at least explore the possibility of a business venture. I have what I believe is a good embryonic idea to create a dating site that doesn't make the user feel like a commodity, taking a couple of cues from the metafilter community model. But my experience of creating websites is pretty limited to HTML and some graphic design, and not much else. I really don't know what programming languages and such are required these days, and want someone who knows their stuff. What I'm looking for is someone who wants a project to work on in their spare time. Someone to develop the back, and front-end of this kind of community website. I intend to provide creative input, ideas, graphics and such, and am also happy to muck in and learn new things if required. So, in short, I am looking for a project partner, with a look toward creating a business together. Ideally you would be based in the UK, but I can't imagine being in another country would be an impossibility. If you are at all interested, please get in contact. I can't imagine it would take anyone proficient with CSS/HTML more than 90 minutes to pull off (you could probably adapt a site you've already coded). The Project Coordinator will be involved with SEA’s student chapters by expanding the program, supporting the groups, and creating new programming. The position also entails managing and recruiting interns, as well fundraising through grants and donor management. This work allows for creativity in developing programs, but also requires significant attention to detail and follow-up. Additionally, the candidate will provide general administrative support to SEA’s Executive Director and Board of Directors as well as help coordinate candidate training and chapter events. Along with project coordination duties, the position involves policy research and strategic thinking. This job entails a significant amount of writing, so proven ability to write clearly and concisely is required. SEA fills a critical gap in science and engineering policy by drawing direct connections between the science policy issues and elections. Our focus is on both increasing the political activism of scientist and engineers and ensuring that critical science and health policy issues are made a focal point of political debate. Hi. I need to build a fairly simple Tower Defence game for a client. I am an illustrator and designer, but not a Flash or action script expert. You, however, are, and are willing to collaborate with me to produce the finished product. The Game: Fun, self-contained Flash based Tower Defence game, with a target audience of 8-12 year old children (therefore won't need to be complicated or too fancy). The finished game will be freely accessible to all and hosted on a website for kids, which I am building. My role: I can supply game rules/gameplay ideas, guidelines, text, all graphics and all sound effects. Basically all the visible and audible stuff. But I don't currently know how to put all these things together so that they work. I am somewhat flexible with the finer points of gameplay, so am open to suggestions if they make your life easier. Two of them are rich-interface (although you won't have to do the AJAX-y stuff, just the template code), while the rest are static pages and forms. Graphic mockups are all done and the spec is written -- you just have to code it. You: -Have experience putting together standards-compliant, lightweight (X)HTML and CSS. -Have a portfolio that shows off what you can do. This is most likely a 6 month assignment with good chance of becoming permanent. We are a start up fashion ecommerce web company. We have a website built in Drupal, Flash and PHP with a MySQL dbase that allows users to design their own tshirts and then buy their designs. I am looking for one or two web development specialists who can be the day to day leads on working with me to re-build our existing site on a smaller, simpler and more flexible scale so that we can refine our I/A, branding, messaging and user experience. First order of business would be to take the code for the main component of our website and re-purpose it to fit in a basic, static html site with a basic database behind it. The core component is a flash tool. I would need one or two people who can look at how the current tool is built and figure out how it works and then figure out how to re-purpose it to our team's specs. I know this is vague.
