Tableau Software needs Software/QA/Sustaining/Tier4 Engineers in Seattle, Kirkland, Menlo Park or Austin. Also, Tech Support, Sales and more in US, UK, Singapore

I work at Tableau Software as a Software Engineer in Sustaining Engineering, and recruiting has been pushing us hard to find new employees, and coincidentally, today there's a MetaTalk post showing some things Tableau can do, so I decided I'd take advantage of MeFi Jobs.

Tableau has a number of Software Engineering positions (most can work in either Seattle, Kirkland, Menlo Park, or Austin). Engineering Management positions as well.

Also, openings in Technical Support, Sales, and more. Most openings are in the US, but there are some in the UK and Singapore.

Most software development is in C++ and Java on Windows. There's some Macintosh work, and although there's no C#, I know we've hired people who have mostly worked in C#.

All openings are listed here.

All Engineering jobs are listed here.

You can forward me your resume through mefi.tableau.recruiting@gmail.com (note: I do get a recruitment bonus for hires).

If you apply online through the Tableau website, I'd appreciate it if you mention that you found the listing on Metafilter and mention my name (Doug R).

You're welcome to email or MeMail me if you have any questions about Tableau Software.

About Tableau Software:

Tableau Software is one of the fastest growing technology companies in the world, with nearly 100% annual sales growth.
Software Quality Assurance Engineer - flexible on experience requirements

This job posting may be less formal than most. I am not a recruiter or part of human resources. I am a software engineer and we have been having a bit of difficulty hiring QA people for the project I am working on, so I thought I'd reach out on my own in places the company may not normally use (like here).

The official job description that we're hiring for is shown here as "Quality Assurance Engineer - End User Client SQA", but we are being a lot more flexible in our requirements than that indicates.

Have a Computer Science degree but no QA experience? We will consider you. Have QA experience but no degree? That's not a problem. Have unrelated computer experience from some other aspect of the field? We will consider you.

Part of this job is admittedly repetitive: tasks like install a piece of software on a bunch of different versions of windows and mac OS and make sure it installs correctly on each one, then repeat the same thing except this time do it as a user who lacks administration rights on the computer.

Other parts of the job are more interesting -- for example, writing scripts to automate the above so that it can be done automatically. And even beyond that, there's the task of coming up with what things are worth testing in a piece of software before it is released to the world at large.

If you can program at all you are ahead of the curve here. Even if you can't, that doesn't mean you couldn't be useful in this position.

There is room for growth in QA towards doing things like building software for automatically testing large systems, or towards management.

Akamai is a good place to work with many benefits including those on this page.

If you think this position might interest you, please email me at my included email address.

Scrum Master of the universe

We at the Interaction Consortium (IxC) in Sydney are seeking a groovy Scrum Master who will provide effective collaboration, facilitation, and leadership support to the team as we deliver high-quality websites that our clients, and their customers, love.

You don’t need to have been a Scrum Master before, but you need to have taken a similar role in teams you’ve worked in (e.g. development manager, team lead) and be familiar with agile work practices. You’ll need to be an exceptional communicator with the ability to lead the team to self-organisation, remove obstructions and strive for continual improvement. This is also a role where you can set the example and ensure that agile best practice is being upheld.

Ideally, you will be available to work for approximately 15 hours spread throughout the working week in the Scrum Master role, with availability at a regular time each day. If you have other skills that you can bring to the team (e.g. design/UX, Django development, HTML, CSS, Javascript), then there may be an opportunity to turn this into a full-time role. We are open to both part-time employment and contractor arrangements.

About the company:

We offer a geek-friendly work environment full of smart people producing awesome code. We try our best to use the best frameworks (e.g. Django on the back-end; jQuery/backbone.js on the front-end) and development practices (agile, open-source, caffeine), and we are not afraid of a bit of experimentation and interdisciplinary work – the more skills and interests you have, the better. We do everything possible to make work fun and interesting and, most of all, balanced with more important things, like having a life.

Freelance technical writer for software documentation needed

We (large educational company with a small software business) are looking for someone to work on updating our documentation as we update one of our products.

The technical writer will have to be able to learn our product, understand the differences between newproduct and oldproduct, and then write and revise our documentation.

The audience is college students and instructors/faculty who might not be technically savvy at all, so the writer will have to be able to explain steps clearly to those without much skill and not be condescending about it.

We have about 30 1-page documents we need to update by June.

Please email your resume, hourly rate, and writing samples (or links to sites you've written for) to me.

We need to see that you have done this sort of technical writing in the past, so people who are good fiction writers or have written other types of stuff, please don't apply.

Software Developer (Python)

(posting for my organization)

Participatory Culture Foundation, which creates Miro, Universal Subtitles, and more, is hiring. Our staff lives around the United States and the world.

We are a non-profit organization with a team that rivals the talent and quality of any for-profit software company in the world. Our software is used by millions of people every month. Are you doing amazing work for a company that you don't really believe in? Quit your job and work for us. Seriously.

We're looking for an outstanding programmer who can work independently, communicate well, and step back from the code to contemplate improvements to program architecture or our development process. This is a full-time position working on Miro related projects. We are particularly interested in, but are not limiting our search to developers with GTK/GStreamer experience or Windows desktop development experience.

Miro presents an exciting real world challenge: creating cross platform desktop software that interacts with a heterogeneous set of third party libraries and provides an easy to use interface on each platform. We build on existing free peer-to-peer and media libraries where we can.

Miro is mostly written in Python, so solid understanding of Python or a similar dynamic language is a must. A solid understanding of C and C++ is also a requirement. Above all, we are looking for applicants who are very smart, agile, and believe in our mission.

TO APPLY: Send a short note about why you're interested in working with us along with a resume to jobs[at]pculture.org. We are hoping to hire soon, so please apply promptly if you are interested in the position.

We also encourage applicants to consider fixing a couple Miro bugs and submitting the patches so that we can see your work and your ability to work on our codebase. A good place to start is the 'bitesized' bug list on the CommunityProjects page.

Software engineer

The project I work on is currently looking for awesome software engineers in the DC area. Most of our work is in Ruby and XSLT, so experience with either is useful, but not strictly necessary, as we assume that talented developers will be able to learn new languages without difficulty. Experience with clustering, agile development methodologies (we use SCRUMM and some pair programming), web services and unit testing are also potentially useful. Familiarity with Unix is required.

A security clearance is a major plus- new hires who don't have one will be sponsored for one (as such, we can only hire U.S. citizens).

This is honestly an awesome project- small teams, fast turnarounds, and important, interesting work. Send me a resume and I'll be happy to provide more info.

We've gotten along now for a few years with some great developers, but no one with structured experience who can bring our architecture and coding methodologies to the next level. * SQL knowledge: basic and advanced (i.e. stored procedures, views, triggers, etc)

* Regular expressions (at least able to understand them even if they give you horrible, horrible nightmares)
* Model-View-Controller (MVC) experience (via frameworks such as Kohana, Zend, Cake, or Symfony for example)
* AJAX by way of jQuery, YUI or any other popular libraries
* Knowledge of design patterns
* Apache and mod_rewrite experience
* Linux system administration skills
* Extensive Javascript and CSS knowledge

We're a younger group of motivated web developers and our company is growing rapidly. We keep things fun and interesting, have great office space in the downtown district, and do our best to give back to our community. Find more out about us at our site.

This is your first test, so don't screw it up...
To apply, send ALL of the following to jobs at synapsestudios dot com:

1. Your resume
2. Some samples showing off what you can do
3. Include the job title in the subject line of the email
