Looking for a promotional writer for a game

We have a website for our game. The problem is all the words are made up gibberish.

If you could take that and replace it with actual words, so that people read the words and say "hey, this CYOA/Diablo game sounds stupendous and I will buy it right now," that would be ideal.

2-days guide in Delhi

I am working with a colleague in my big multi-national to launch a social business project in India. We're doing some groundwork in Delhi and I am looking for a guide for him for his visit.

Ideally, I am looking for someone
- willing to go anywhere! this would require going to industrial and workshop areas in old town Delhi
- available 26 and 27 February, and a quick meeting on 25th
- comfortable in English or - even better - French
- interested in social business or development of India
This would be paid and if the project works out and the relationship is good could lead to future work.

My colleague is a French guy who is good at being serious but also funny and smart. He has traveled a lot in India and all over the world, often by motorcycle.

Metafilter has some awesome people but I would like to be able to vouch for you a bit; in your message please tell me a bit about yourself and give me a way to reach you by skype, phone, etc.

Wordpress/Web Developer in Rochester, NY

We need someone who has experience working with Wordpress and HTML/CSS/Javascript. If you think you're cut out to replace me, send me an email: [1] jordan@philipsongroup.com.

Also, hopefully you have at least 2 years of experience working with a LAMP stack. You need to be comfortable with the command line to keep the server running. You need to be able to show me exactly where the themes folder is in a Wordpress build. You need to know what a polyfill is, and you need to bring me copies of code that you've written for evaluation. You need to write clean, competent and progressive markup. You need to know PHP enough to write custom functionality for WP; we don’t need a PHP wizard, but you should be able to at least code a calendar or something similar.

You're going to be doing all of the IT support for the office, so you need to be able to handle simple fixes in OSX, our router, and a drobo FS backup server. Ideally, you'd be comfortable fixing Mac/PC hardware, or willing to google for directions.

You need to be competent in Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as general computer imaging theory (i.e. differences between filetypes, best practices for dealing with web images and compression, etc).
You will need to be willing to learn new programming languages and techniques on occasion.

The job is nice. I've been here for 7-8 months. My co-workers are all friendly people and the office is absolutely GORGEOUS. Like, seriously gorgeous. Like when a young person in a movie is successful and they show their office and you're like "OH MY GOD, NOBODY WORKS AT A PLACE LIKE THIS IN REAL LIFE". Yeah, it's like that. We literally work across the street from a waterfall.

The pay is enough to get by on around here, commensurate with experience. There are healthcare options, including a high-deductible plan and a more expensive option that I'm not particularly familiar with.

I'm going to be interviewing you. I'm pretty laid-back and not really a bullshitter, but I am going to make sure that you're going to be a good fit for my co-workers and that you know your stuff. If you're okay with that, I'd love to meet with you sometime in the next couple of weeks. Email me your portfolio or links to a couple of sites that you've built (along with proof that you built them) and we'll talk: [2] jordan@philipsongroup.com.

Contract: Print ads and marketing materials design

I am a one-man startup whose webapp is rapidly approaching launch. My target market is a bunch of stodgy professionals. I need someone (you!) to design 3-5 print ads and some marketing materials that will blast my product into those skeptical brains.

This would be a finite contract with the potential for more work in future. (And yes, this contract will be paid with real money and not promises about future riches.)

I don't care where you live as long as you're responsive to e-mail, religious about deadlines, and forthcoming with a portfolio. You'll have to sign an NDA before you can bid.

Please e-mail me with your CV, portfolio, and a short note that highlights your wittiness.

Affiliate Data Feed Expert

I'm building an affiliate site for a niche with 15-20 datafeeds, that I want to setup as a price comparison site.

I'm looking for someone who has worked with CJ.com Shareasale and Avantlink.com datafeeds.

This person should have made a datafeed site before and simply needs to help me setup the cron jobs, and give me the code to set one up myself with there assistance, visually I don't need any help with css just the back end.

Parsing the data into product pages, category pages, and brand pages.

If you've made a search engine for this even better.

Ideally on the product pages, I'd like to list out comparing prices for the same product. I realize individual data feeds are different and that which applies to one doesn't apply to be it sku or keyword title, using php's like command should come in handy.

Ideally I'm looking for someone who already uses datafeeds and wants to lend a helping hand and will be fairly compensated.

This niche has between 15-25 datafeeds, so it isn't like I'm trying to build a shopping.com clone ;)

Please reply with example sites, so we can get started right away.

Thanks!!!

Contract marketing writer/packaging writer for consumer electronics

We're looking for something very rare -- a brilliant, enthusiastic, intuitive write to help us out asap that meets all our weird standards.

We need a contractor or agency -- set up as your own business -- to work on a project-by-project basis on packaging and web copy to launch new consumer electronics. We can't work with standard freelancers -- you need to be set up as your own business.

You have to be quick, clever, clear and comfortable taking engineering gobbledeegook and turning it into concise language that consumers can understand and fall in love with. That means not only writing well, but having a strategic brain -- as well as knowing which battles are important and which are as futile as a fight over the word "dongle" versus the word "receiver" when deadlines are on the line.

You have to be professional enough that we can rely on you -- to only commit to us on jobs you can do well, to follow through, and to keep your cool even when you're getting writing feedback from someone for whom English may be a third or fourth language who speaks only in speeds and feeds.

You have to not be scared off by this -- not because it isn't daunting, but because gadgets and gizmos are so cool that they're worth jumping through a few hoops to make even cooler.

You should have a good book, a good sense of humor and a strong understanding of brand. Yes, this is like a sense of humor -- it's a given, but we have to say it anyway.

Bonus points for Bay Area, previous experience in consumer electronics, a short stint as a planner, or just an interesting back story that makes us want to spend time working with you.

Meme Analyst / Social Media Strategist

<strong>Your Role</strong>
We’re looking for strategic and creative counselors who can help companies listen to organic Web culture, recommend strategies and tactics to engage with that culture and then execute the plans they develop. Daily responsibilities include but won't be limited to the following:

• Creating and executing online engagement strategies &amp; tactics for a wide range of companies, working with Ketchum account teams, directly with clients and with other agencies (50%)
• Tracking internet memes and online culture, working with organic Web communities and generating ideas for how brands can add value to Web culture (40%)
• Creating and facilitating trainings / seminars about internet culture and social media for clients and account teams (10%)

This job would be based in Midtown, New York City, but would include travel across Ketchum’s extensive North American network to our various offices and client headquarters.

<strong>We can haz skills?</strong>
There’s a glut of social media experts out there in the marketing world right now, but we’re not looking for “gurus,” talking heads or self-styled Twitterati. We’re not looking for someone who’s interested in the Internet as a toolkit to help brands, but rather, someone who’s interested in the Internet because they love the organic cultures that it fosters. In other words, we’re looking for someone who:

• Has a demonstrated interest and history of involvement in some meaningful aspect of internet culture
• Is deeply invested in one or more communities of conversation on the Web, and is actively producing content of some kind related to that conversation (e.g., blogging, creating videos, active on forums / discussion boards, etc.)
• Reads voraciously &amp; shares content regularly on the Web
• Shows a strong working knowledge of established &amp; emerging web tools / platforms and how people use them
• Is entrepreneurial, able to self-manage and adhere to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Can present complex and aggressive ideas comfortably to conservative companies in a compelling way
• Has strong writing &amp; presentation design skills
• Has 2-5 years experience in some sort of related field. WE DON’T JUST MEAN PR or ADVERTISING. Though we’re interested in talking to you if you come from those worlds, we’re also interested in talking to people with backgrounds in blogging, gaming, journalism, assassin, programming, engineering, music, design…you name it.

<strong>About Us</strong>
The Bureau of Internet Culture is a group of Web culture fanatics working within Ketchum, a global PR agency, to change the way that brands engage with people on the Internet. Our mission is to free the Web from bad marketing, and our approach is simple: find the natural intersections between what brands want to say and what Web users actually want to talk about. Once we find that intersection, we work backwards to engineer cool ways for brands to add value to organic internet culture. This approach is very different from what most agencies do, which is to find ways for brands to use channels like Facebook and Twitter to simply extract value from Web users.

Unlike the legions of “social media gurus” out there, we’re not just traditional marketers trying to use the internet to make “viral content.” Rather, we come from non-marketing backgrounds, we love internet culture, we want to protect internet culture, we’ve grown up immersed in various online communities and we’ve entered the marketing world to help companies understand the proper role that marketing should play on the Web.

Our clients include Fortune 100 companies like FedEx, IKEA, Nokia, IBM, Sony PlayStation, Hyundai, Frito-Lay, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Dyson, Chase, Mattel and Kodak (among others)—the Bureau of Internet Culture works with most clients across Ketchum’s network in North America and Europe.

So do you love the internet? Do you love spending your days immersed in Web culture? Do you want to keep that culture safe from bad marketing? If so, then the Bureau of Internet Culture might be a perfect fit!

Meme Analyst / Social Media Strategist

<strong>Your Role</strong>
We’re looking for strategic and creative counselors who can help brands listen to organic Web culture, recommend strategies and tactics to engage with that culture and then execute the plans they develop. Daily responsibilities would include but wouldn’t be limited to the following:

• Tracking internet memes and online culture, and generating ideas in real-time for how brands can add value to that culture
• Working with people doing interesting things on the Web to create unique collaborations between brands and third parties (bloggers, content creators, reporters, Web site owners, community managers, etc.)
• Creating and facilitating trainings / seminars about internet culture and social media for clients and account teams
• Serving as in-house agency expert in all things relating to social media / Web culture
• Participation in new business pitches
• Blogger relations
• Participating in speaking opportunities at conferences and with reporters regarding social media / online engagement strategy

• Shows a strong working knowledge of established &amp; emerging web tools / platforms and how people use them
• Has access to a network of relevant contacts in at least one focus area of internet culture
(e.g., online/web platform partners, bloggers/reporters, YouTube channels, content creators, etc.)

About TechSoup Global:

TechSoup Global is a nonprofit organization that has been successful in creating a suite of high impact services that facilitate corporate philanthropy and benefit community service organizations in a financially sustainable model. For more than two decades, our mission has been to work toward the day when every community service organization on the planet has access to the technology resources and information they need to achieve their own missions. Founded in 1987, we currently have more than 170 staff members and an annual budget of about $23 million. TechSoup Global helps other nonprofits better serve their missions by acquiring and using technology, implementing web and social networking, and receiving grant funding and product donations.

Working with capacity-building partners across the world, TechSoup Global is actively expanding our program outside the US. We establish partnerships with in-country NGOs to implement our highly effective product donation program, while adapting to local business practices, laws, and cultural imperatives. In the process, we’re building a global network of partners all focused on empowering NGOs through the effective use of technology. We’re in 22 countries to date and adding more each month.

Through our TechSoup Stock website, nonprofits find a broad range of software donated by leading tech companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, Symantec, Intuit, and Adobe, along with content and community resources tailored specifically for a nonprofit audience. To date we have enabled over $1 billion in technology donations world wide.

Based upon the strength of our global network, our expertise in building scalable web systems, our history of working both with donors and with recipient NGOs, and our experience building one of the fastest growing sustainable social enterprises, TechSoup Global was recently selected to build a new service for international philanthropy. Backed by major foundations and key philanthropy sector partners, this new service will create a global database of nonprofits and NGOs, making it easier and less costly for international grantmakers to provide cash grants to social benefit organizations in countries outside the U.S.

TechSoup Global is dedicated to creating and supporting an environment of openness, trust, and fun where people's differences are valued and respected, and where people of diverse backgrounds participate fully in our organization. We believe that the diverse cultures and perspectives of our staff will help us better serve our clients. TechSoup Global is an equal opportunity agency and will not allow discrimination based upon ethnicity, race, color, citizenship, creed, religion, size, weight, height, ancestry, national origin, age, sex, gender, gender identity, pregnancy or childbirth, marital status, domestic partner status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, physical or mental handicap, medical condition, AIDS/HIV status, veteran status, or socioeconomic background.

Web Marketing Guy with a lil' PHP experience.

Basically- You're taking over my job. When I entered this position it was strictly online marketing- Yakking with bloggers, running online contests, tending to the Facebook Page, dreaming up new ways to connect with people online, sending out the monthly newsletter etc etc.

My yen to get things done combined with my Comp Sci 102 knowledge led me to create a series of custom apps that allow us to be more flexible and get things done more quickly. What this means is that it's no longer strictly a marketing gig- It's like 1/2 web development, 1/2 marketing.

So here's what you'd need to get on board:

-PHP 102 skillz. I did a lot of documentation, but if a problem pops up you need to have that core understanding of programming languages to fix it.

-HTML/CSS skillz. We have a graphic designer, but you'll need to code. Our e-commerce system is VERY flexible, which means it also breaks and bends in all kinds of ways. Being able to diagnose and fix the problem is very important.

-MySQL 101 skillz. Those PHP apps? They interact with SQL. A lot. Know your UPDATES and INSERTS and you'll be fine.

-Imagination. We don't do ads. Which means that we need to get the word out somehow. Wanna have a blogger lunch at our restaurant? Great. Make it happen. Have a cool idea for a Flash recipe book? We sort of hate Flash, but make it cool and we can bear it.

We are a small gourmet food company with big growth in the last 2-3 years and very healthy forecast for the year ahead. It also means you get free food at events, as well as take home from our own brands.

You don't have to be a programming whiz, but you do need a healthy spirit of "I can do it" or "I can find out how to do it", patience and hard work. Apply using the e-mail address below for more details.

Looking for full-time, but willing to consider part-time/freelance for the interim. NYC preferred.
