Operations assistant for online library-related product

We are the online division of a library services company and are looking for a someone to fill our online operations position.

This job requires both computer savvy and customer communication skills. You will be responsible for updating our systems in response to client requests and to help clients most fully utilize their subscription to our web-based information product. You will perform daily, weekly and regularly scheduled maintenance tasks; administrative functions; and other work as needed to continue the smooth operation our services and the online department.

What we’re looking for:
* Bachelor’s degree required.
* 2-4 years experience managing client accounts and working in an office environment is required.
* Technical support experience would be useful but this is not a high volume call center type of environment.
* Logical thinkers with a healthy sense of curiosity and doggedness in dealing with problems are ideal candidates.
* Experience with web applications and some HTML required. If you have a little experience with Unix we’d love to know about it. If you want to write code, you won’t get to do that in this job, sorry.
* Our systems rely on journal data so it would be very helpful if you knew anything about bibliographic data.

You must:
* Be able to work independently and be able to meet deadlines and organize your own work schedule.
* Demonstrate good customer relations skills and overall performance consistency.
* Demonstrate very professional written and verbal communication skills.

Our systems have been developed in-house and we will provide training on them but we’re looking for someone who can become a member of our team and take ownership of their work quickly. You will start as an assistant to the existing operations person with a path of growth to becoming the lead person in the department and working independently as soon as possible.

We provide a competitive salary and benefits and a casual working environment. No relocation is offered. You can read MeFi all day so long as our customers are happy and all your work is done. I'm trying to hire someone full-time but could also work with someone who's able to keep a regular part-time schedule. You could probably go to school at night and have this job during the day. Dependability is key.

Please submit your resume and cover letter to jobs [at ] ieonline [dot] com and use code “IEO-OPS-MeFi” in your subject line.

I am the hiring manager (I'm trying to hire my semi-replacement) but other people will be screening the resumes and conducting interviews. I can answer some questions directed to my personal mail but won't accept resumes there.

One-off PHP/MySQL dev job

Looking for a price on a PHP development: a web-based song library manager/catalog.

Database should contain song titles, and information about each one (artist, album it appears on, trivia, one or more custom fields). Separate (linked) table for artists, to allow artist-specific trivia. Songs must be able to be assigned to user-defined categories (each song will appear in only one category).

User must be able to add songs one-at-a-time through an intuitive web interface, or batch upload through a tab-delimited file.

User must also be able to easily move songs from one category to another - perhaps drag-and-drop/Ajax? Perhaps lists with check boxes and "Move To ___" buttons? I'm open - I just want it to be extremely intuitive, so that virtually no documentation is necessary.

Administrative area needs to be password-protected (through a web form, not a simple htaccess lock). There also needs to be a public-facing display that allows users to browse the contents of the catalog without being able to make changes.

Database must allow for multiple users, preferably in the same MySQL database.

Please contact me via MeFi Mail with questions or with a price quote and estimated turnaround time. Thanks much!

The job would be in Santiago, 45 hours a week. The person should speak Spanish, and the pay would be competitive with what Chileans make, at least twice the national average, and maybe up to five times as much. It's a wide margin, between 500,000 and 1,000,000 pesos a month. (approx $1-2k) Ideally, the person has two years of studies in library... something, a master's is probably not necessary, 3 years of experience. They have to know cataloguing, research, library policy and procedures and a high level of computer expertise (forgive me if these are not the terms of art, this just came across my desk in Spanish, and I don't know English library terms). We're not looking to maintain, rather to develop resources and services.

Freelance librarian/OCLC search expert w/ mad Endnote skills

Sorry to be vague with the job title and the description, but we are looking for someone with excellent OCLC search skills (librarian-level) who is also fluent in EndNote to help compile the "recently-published works" section of a major academic publication. (Again, sorry to be vague; consider this an unofficial, but legitimate, job posting.)

You would need to live in the DC area to take this position, which entails performing a series of searches in OCLC FirstSearch and then massaging the results into an acceptable format for publication. These searches are performed about four times a year. Basic knowledge of European languages (German, French, Italian, Polish) would be a big plus. You don't have to be fluent, just as long as you understand the difference between an umlaut and an accent grave. Publications experience also a plus.

Please contact me at rcoleman@ushmm.org about this position. I'm not the person making the decision, but I can give you more info about it before forwarding on your resume.

Science Librarian

Mefi-brarians or mefi-brarians-to-be, come work at a growing academic library in the Midwest. We offer boundless opportunities for anyone who wants to provide innovative services to users and make a real contribution to campus, almost unreasonably warm and friendly coworkers, and a kickass dean who values those who cut the usual academic crap and get to work.

This is a far more technology-focused position than most traditional academic library positions. As a Science Librarian, you would:

* Provide general and specialized research assistance, collection management, and library instruction to bioscience and/or engineering academic departments.
* Participate in collaborative projects, research teams, and grant activities related to bioscience and technology initiatives.
* Develops, manage, and promote Sciences Department digital content and services and provides support for Sciences Department digital content creators.
* Investigate, test, and recommend cutting-edge solutions for Web-delivered science, agriculture, and engineering content.
* Contributes digital imaging, metadata, and database creation and management expertise to Sciences Department projects and initiatives.
* Serves as liaison between the Sciences Department and the Digital Initiatives Department.

We're willing to hire brand new library school grads; this is more about a mindset and an attitude than specific work experience. Tenure-track position. Cover letter, CV, and 3 references to apply. Must hold an MLS from an ALA accredited institution.

<a href="http://www.lib.ksu.edu/news/sciencelib.html">Complete posting</a>
