Tableau Software needs Software/QA/Sustaining/Tier4 Engineers in Seattle, Kirkland, Menlo Park or Austin. Also, Tech Support, Sales and more in US, UK, Singapore

I work at Tableau Software as a Software Engineer in Sustaining Engineering, and recruiting has been pushing us hard to find new employees, and coincidentally, today there's a MetaTalk post showing some things Tableau can do, so I decided I'd take advantage of MeFi Jobs.

Tableau has a number of Software Engineering positions (most can work in either Seattle, Kirkland, Menlo Park, or Austin). Engineering Management positions as well.

Also, openings in Technical Support, Sales, and more. Most openings are in the US, but there are some in the UK and Singapore.

Most software development is in C++ and Java on Windows. There's some Macintosh work, and although there's no C#, I know we've hired people who have mostly worked in C#.

All openings are listed here.

All Engineering jobs are listed here.

You can forward me your resume through mefi.tableau.recruiting@gmail.com (note: I do get a recruitment bonus for hires).

If you apply online through the Tableau website, I'd appreciate it if you mention that you found the listing on Metafilter and mention my name (Doug R).

You're welcome to email or MeMail me if you have any questions about Tableau Software.

.NET or J2EE developer

Who We Are
Workstate is an interactive consultancy with offices in Columbus, Ohio and Seattle, Washington. Our clients range from growing medium-sized companies listed on Fast Company’s “Fast 50” to large corporations in the Fortune 500.

Workstate’s core group of consultants have been working together since 1997. Our mission is to build a company focused on the success of our clients as well as the personal growth of our employees.

Why We Need Someone
Simply put, our past success drives our growth. We need smart, self-starting people who can come in and pick up projects with little supervision.

What the Job Will Require
We are looking for a proven developer with 4-6 years of experience. Most (but not all) projects will involve web development so at least 50% of your experience should be in this area and up-to-date with regard to standards and techniques.

Strong experience with .NET or J2EE is a must. Additional technologies & standards of interest include:

HTML/CSS

JavaScript

SQL Database Servers (MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)

jQuery or other client-side layout and/or interaction technologies

CMS integration

General attributes:

Object-oriented development

Testing / debugging

Technical spec writing

Good written and verbal communication, including with non-technical people

Ability and interest to learn new technologies on the fly, as they become needed

The ability and interest to learn is one of our most desired attributes in a candidate. If you can demonstrate an aptitude to dig in up to your elbows and build experience in new technologies as you deliver projects utilizing those technologies successfully, your application will move to the top of the pile.

Your initial engagement will be on a contract basis. After that, it’s up to you. Continued contract work or a permanent salaried position is available to proven consultants. The Workstate work environment provides experience in a lot of different areas. Here’s a list of some of the technologies we work with on a regular basis:

Application Frameworks - .NET, J2EE, COM, Win32
Web Application Frameworks – ASP.NET, JSP, PHP, Struts, Rails
User Interface Toolkits – HTML, CSS, jQuery, YahooUI, Sencha, HTML5/Canvas, Windows Forms, Flash
Programming Languages - C#, VB.NET, Java, PHP, VB6, VBScript, JavaScript, Ruby
Database Systems – SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL
Content Management Systems – Liferay, Sharepoint, Sitecore, DotNetNuke & others.

Aside from the implementation of software systems, you will be encouraged to keep up-to-date on the latest technologies and advancements in software development as a profession.

This position is in Columbus, Ohio so we require that you either already live in the Central Ohio area or are prepared to move here.

What Benefits We Will Provide
Our benefits package for salaried associates include health, vision and dental insurance, 20 days of paid vacation per year, and a retirement investment plan. We also have a fridge stocked with soft drinks and plenty of coffee to go around.

We Do Not Discriminate
Workstate does not discriminate in employment matters on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or any other protected class. We support workplace diversity.

iOS/Android Developer for Real-World Location-Based Games

We're developers and co-creators of Zombies, Run!, a running game and audio adventure that melds GPS and accelerometer data with an epic story and fantastic gameplay. With over 100,000+ sales on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone and a pricetag of $7.99, it's the most successful smartphone fitness game in the world.

We want developers who can help make Zombies, Run! even better by using the latest software and hardware features in iOS and Android - and who can help think up entirely new game concepts that use smartphones and other wearable devices and computers in novel ways.

In other words, we want your help to make the games of the future.

What's working at Six to Start like?

You get to talk directly to everyone who makes the game - we're a small team of six right now, and decisions get made quickly.

You get the hardware and software you need; we're an Apple shop and everyone has an extra display.

We're flexible on hours and on occasionally working from home.
We've got a laid-back atmosphere - we have an hour for lunch and we regularly go out on funded lunches, dinners, cinema trips, and more.

You get real responsibility and public credit for the work we do. We're regularly invited to speak at conferences around the world and it's important that our developers take advantage of these opportunities.

Requirements:

We need you to show us something you have coded. It doesn’t need to be a game, it doesn’t need to have graphics, it doesn’t even have to have zombies, it just needs to be interesting.

You're able to work from our office in South London (shortly moving to North London)

You’re flexible in your habits and what you’re willing to learn; we’re an indie developer and everyone’s job can be very fluid. If you aren’t comfortable with that, this is not the place for you. But if you like trying out new things and learning very quickly, it is.

Being friendly and approachable!

An interest in games and game design, and a tenacious approach to problem-solving.

Nice-to-haves include:

1+ year experience of Android or iOS development

Experience in a related field (e.g. web development, UI/UX design, sound engineering, Android development, hardware hacking, etc.)

Experience adapting or ‘porting’ games or apps from one platform to another

Before we made Zombies, Run!, we didn't have any iOS or Android experience - we taught ourselves in the process (we were web devs with previous experience in Python and C). Our philosophy is that good developers are able to learn new languages quickly - that's why we don't require iOS or Android experience for this job, and why we welcome developers who have an equally strong passion for learning.

About Six to Start

Six to Start creates games and interactive experiences for smartphones, the web, and the real world. We've won a whole host of awards including SXSW Best of Show and Best Game, and before making Zombies, Run!, we worked on major projects for the BBC, Channel 4, Disney Imagineering (the guys who make all the insanely cool stuff), Microsoft, and the British Museum.

We're profitable, bootstrapped, and expanding rapidly. No need to worry about funding here.

We're offering a competitive salary and the chance to make games that will be remembered by hundreds of thousands of people decades from now.

- comfortable working with HTML,
- experienced with the Apache Velocity template engine,
- well-versed in the config and setup of the Tomcat and Resin app servers.

If this sounds like you, please drop me a note telling me a bit about yourself, along with a portfolio and/or CV, and your rates.

Ideally you're located in the GTA, but we could be convinced otherwise if you're awesome enough. We mostly work remotely, with the occasional meetup, but office space with the team could be arranged if you require it.

Software Engineer (Sr., Jr., Whatevs)

I work for a cool company. I want to share this space with a clever MeFite.

We work at the San Francisco outpost of our e-commerce mothership back in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Despite having midwestern origins, our office culture is very west coast. On any given day a small handful of folks show up, make things together, become friends then go home -- leaving the typical politics, stress and overwork up to the folks back east.

My coworkers are smart, humble, exceedingly competent and some of my closest friends. We're not a clique, none are hipsters and all have a smashing sense of humor and charm.

Our engineers aren't shoved off into a dark hole to churn out software like typing monkeys. On the other hand, none of them are Jeebus or regarded as such. We don't feed egos, nor do we coddle the introverted.

The pay is great, widely negotiable. The benefits are astounding, including quarterly profit bonuses and a health plan that'd render Michael Moore speechless. Our vacation days total in around 16/year for new hires, but we also work flex hours and can generally take every other Friday off.

Check out the following job description, but know that we'd love to hear from Jr. Engineers as well. If you can't hit all of these requirements, so what. Throw your hat in and enjoy the result.

Senior Software Engineers at Fry are charged with leading development efforts for engineering projects undertaken on behalf of our clients. This process consists of synthesizing functional and technical specifications to develop Web applications following Fry standards for coding, documentation, design, and security practices.

Senior Software Engineers mentor Software Engineers to help them develop their skills and abilities. They collaborate and work closely with Project Managers, Development Managers, and System Architects. This position is integral to the success of the team and Senior Engineers must actively participate in both internal and external (client-facing) meetings.

Qualified candidates will have experience/knowledge in:

Java and OO development best practices
Working from and creating UML specifications

System maintenance and monitoring processes

Change management and code deployment methodology

Systems integration

Managing multiple projects and deadlines

Delivering exceptional customer service

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Delegating work to others

Assessing the progress of development

Participating in code reviews

Have strong written and oral communication skills

Project scoping and estimation

Transactional systems (preferably commerce)

Required Educational and Experience qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
5+ years experience in: Object Oriented Development.
Very Strong experience in: Java Development; J2EE Application Servers; SQL and RDBMS
UNIX administration is also helpful
Must be extremely detail oriented.
