About The Sound of Young America & MaximumFun.org The Sound of Young America is a public radio show about things that are awesome, distributed by Public Radio International. Past guests on the show have included Terry Gilliam, Bob Odenkirk & David Cross, The Flaming Lips, Built to Spill, Chuck D, Killer Mike, Devin the Dude, They Might Be Giants, Patton Oswalt, Elmore Leonard, the creators of the television series Veronica Mars, Stella and Battlestar Galactica and others. MaximumFun.org also produces a number of succesful podcasts, including the podcast of The Sound of Young America, the talk show Jordan, Jesse GO!, and the comedy series Coyle & Sharpe: The Imposters and The Kasper Hauser Comedy Podcast. Also, we blog. We're looking for a student with an active interest in the arts & culture, including "indie" popular music, books, television, film, comedy and so on. Internships The Sound of Young America is happy to capitalize on the vast potential of our nation's young people -- specifically, the vast potential of them to work for us for free. To further that end, we offer a comprehensive internship program, welcoming a student each academic semester to slave and study at our feet. (Not literally, you will get your own desk.) Students must commit to 24 hours per week in the summer, and 20 hours per week in the winter or spring, working in our office in Los Angeles' Koreatown. We prefer students who will receive academic credit for their work. (This work incentive is our best legal substitute for our preferred arrangement, indentured servitude.) Interns should expect to work actively and directly in the production of The Sound of Young America, as well as the rest of our media empire. Dates & Deadlines We offer three internship periods, each approximately 3 months in length. The Fall period runs roughly from September through December, the Winter/Spring period from January through May, and the Summer period from June through August. Internship at Public Radio Show in Washington, DC

Interfaith Voices, an independently syndicated public radio show based in Brentwood, MD (very close to Washington DC and recorded there) is looking for a great digital media intern to fill an immediate opening. We are: The oldest public radio show on faith and spirituality. Hosted by Maureen Fiedler SL, the show is heard on 45 stations in the US and Canada including KICK-FM in Winnipeg and WAMU-FM in Washington, DC. The producer is John Parman. The show can be heard online at http://www.interfaithradio.org This internship is not paid, but we do provide a transportation reimbursement and a completion stipend. We seek: a person who is interested in public radio and more interested in learning the art and function of digital audio editing and studio recording controls. Although we often look for college students, many of our interns have been those seeking a second career in radio. Some knowledge of Adobe Audition helpful, but we will fully train and provide references upon completion. Your job: work in the studio once each week with hosts at studios in Washington, DC; edit digital audio and mix the show for stations; make and label CDs for distribution to radio stations and donors. A major cable TV network owned by NBC/Universal is seeking one or two interns for the spring semester. The positions are unpaid, but you will get college or graduate school credit, and a foot in the door at a great TV network and a really great place to work. You'll get a lot of hands on experience with what it's like working in a digital media group at a network, and get to see your work make a real difference to our websites and online video offerings. We have a lot of projects on our plate -- new website features to build, new shows launching all the time, bugs to fix and tech support questions to track down, message boards to (lightly) moderate, online webisodes to cut and encode, reality show contestants to interview on camera for online bonus content, production company tapes to log for our tape library, photo galleries to cut and resize and upload, 40+ blogs to publish and oversee -- and not nearly enough people to do them! We can split this internship into one web development focused internship and one video editing focused internship, or we can grab one or two "jack of all trades" people. It depends on what skills you bring to the table. Things we're looking for, video-related: - Final Cut Pro experience a BIG plus - ability to operate a "prosumer" level video camera and audio equipment - familiarity with podcasts, audio encoding of WAV files to MP3 format, creating ID3 tags for MP3's - familiarity with both Mac's and PC's Things we're looking for, web-related: - HTML, XHTML, XML knowledge - CSS knowledge, including positioning and not just text-formatting, and some knowledge of CSS hacks to get around IE's long-standing issues. - web standards, semantic code, accessibility issues, separating layout from content using XHTML + CSS, how to position content on a page without using tables, how to create appropriate headings and page structure, etc. - Movable Type v.3.2+ and its major plugins - Adobe Photoshop experience - Macromedia Dreamweaver experience - basic PHP - basic MySQL queries - familiarity with both Mac's and PC's The internships are for any three days of the week, with relatively flexible hours, as long as Wednesday is one of the three days.
