Copywriting gig in Tokyo

A Tokyo-based graphic arts firm is seeking a copywriter to write English language advertisements and marketing collateral for overseas use. Experienced writers preferred; translators and technical writers welcome.

This is a great opportunity if you are studying Japanese and want some real Japanese business experience. You'll get to practice speaking, listening, and reading Japanese in a relaxed environment, while doing your actual work in English. You'll also get to go on-site and meet with clients, who include some of the most famous names in electronics manufacturing.

Bonus for tech lovers, you get to play with pre-release products!!

Requirements:

• Must currently reside in Japan. (Firm on this one. Sorry, overseas folks!)
• Native English speaker or have close to "perfect" English speaking ability.
• Conversational Japanese ability.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications, including PowerPoint.

Additional notes:

• Full-time from sometime around August.
• 3-month introductory period, followed by 'seishain' status (permanent, not a yearly contract).
• Visa sponsorship is available.
• Application deadline is 7/4/2008.

I'm not the final decision maker, but I will be selecting the candidates. Feel free to ask me any questions!
Send resumes, questions, writing samples to tokyowritinggig@gmail.com (not my MeFi mail, please).

Satellite Broadcast Engineer

First off, I'm not the hiring manager for this job. I would be one of your coworkers. After seeing the job opening posts on other job sites, I believe the company is asking for the wrong things. I've worked this position for a few years now, and I'm taking it upon myself to see if any MeFites have any experience in the following areas, because this skillset is kind of a pain to come by. And I get a lovely referral fee if you get hired.

We are in need of engineering dilettants. If you know what an NTSC waveform looks like, know what I mean when I say "neg 3 dB," have any clue about networks (specifically UDP and multicast), don't mind working with high power RF transmitters at times, have ever heard of DVB-S transmission/encryption and MPEG-2 compression, ever taken a soldering gun to a monitor, and can pull a cable, you're my new best friend.

I could go on. There are a thousand other small nerdy tasks in this job that might just scratch you where you itch. Save the resumes for later; experience isn't what I'm looking for. Email me, and we'll talk.
