Senior Content Manager, TechSoup.org (Regular, Full time, Exempt)

Position Summary: This position reports to the Senior Director of Community. The Senior Content Manager will manage a team of 7 content developers. The role requires an ability to work on cross-functional issues, implement strategic policies, and establish work plans and performance requirements. The Senior Content Manager will play a key role in setting the content strategy for the TechSoup.org and TechSoupforlibraries.org sites, act as publisher for TechSoup.org, as well as improving our current processes to maximize our impact on nonprofits, NGOs, and public libraries; will lead and manage the team of content developers in prioritizing projects, managing resources, and creating and editing content as needed. The manager will work closely with other parts of the organization at all levels to ensure that our content supports and enhances our product donation and community offerings. The role requires an individual to have enthusiasm for staff management, and the desire to produce accessible, readable, and accurate technical content to enhance the technical capacity of thousands of nonprofits, NGOs, and public libraries worldwide. Major Duties and Responsibilities: · Work with Director and key staff to craft and implement a content strategy for TechSoup.org and TechSoupforlibraries.org in coordination. · Provide leadership and supervision to a team of seven creative content developers. · Act as publisher for TechSoup.org. · Act as the point of contact for in-depth content strategy discussions and content requests. · Represent the team on cross-functional projects. · Establish and assure adherence to budgets, schedules and work plans. · Enforce style guidelines across the organization in coordination with the Communications Department. · Set up actionable usage metrics in coordination with TSG Reporting team. · Prioritize projects and fully utilize resources internal to the group as well as external to the group. · Develop and manage the editorial calendar and schedule for publishing content across target audiences and programs. · Work with Development team on content related grants as needed.

Perform other work as required. (TechSoup Global is a fast-paced organization. The person in this position will need to be able to work in a flexible environment that changes quickly and provides many opportunities for creative input and new ideas.)

Qualifications: Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
8 to 10 years of management, supervision, and leadership experience required
At least 5 years of experience writing and editing professionally required

· Experience managing grants preferred

Demonstrated enthusiasm for emerging technology preferred
Experience consulting or working with nonprofit organizations or public libraries highly preferred
E-commerce product management experience highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: · Understanding of the technology needs of nonprofits and the challenges in implementing technology solutions that they face preferred

Knowledge of Web 2.0 tools preferred
Knowledge of SharePoint is a major advantage and highly preferred
Knowledge of A.P. Style

Skills:

Strange Horizons, a weekly web-based speculative fiction magazine founded in 2000, is adding staff members! Read below for our current openings. Keep in mind that Strange Horizons is a non-profit organization, and that these are all volunteer positions; no one on our staff is paid. We find working for Strange Horizons to be an immensely rewarding experience, and we hope you will too. Copy Edit a Newsletter story

I need to have a competent editor go over a story for my newsletter (around 2500 words). The story is currently being translated into Japanese (the newsletter is bilingual) but the translator is giving feedback to the effect that 'people without knowledge of this topic aren't really going to understand many parts of this.' I don't think that's true, but because I wrote it, I can't tell. I need you - who knows nothing about Japanese woodblock prints - to read this item, and make comments/edits/suggestions/etc. to help improve it, if necessary. The story (with illustrations) is in a .pdf file here. And the raw text is here. A sample issue of the newsletter - to let you see the typical style, etc., is here. And I'm hoping that you would consider doing this on a 'barter', perhaps for a copy of say, this print? (Please contact me first ...)

Video logger/editor in NYC

We have a 10-hour lecture on medical ethics, from a jewish perspective, that needs to be edited down into 15-minute chunks (or so). At the very least, we need someone to log and capture the tapes from MiniDV to DV format so we can edit in Final Cut Pro. If this person is able to edit, even better. If they can add some b-roll type footage (graphics, charts, powerpoints, etc), much better. If they can then convert to internet-ready formats, wowza. They need to work quickly, be able to follow the material, at least enough to do the b-roll. We prefer someone in New York City.
