Help build a WordPress website for our tiny charity

My family started a charity where we partner with a local YMCA to offer swim lessons to foster kids. The program is at one site so far but we've helped 30+ kids and have dreams of growing it across the country.

I bought a hosting plan and a domain and thought I'd make the site myself (I used to write stuff in HTML in younger days), but after an hour of poking around it's way over my head.

I have no need for anything fancy. Just a pretty, clean site that gets across the basics: who we are, what we do, where our programs are located, how to get in touch. Maybe someday a "donate" button but we are not even a 501(c)(3) yet. I'm happy to use your favorite template and some stock photos to start.

My goal is to get something nice up there and hopefully be able to make minor changes myself as we go (but if recent experience is a guide that's...unlikely).

Do you know WordPress? Can you help? Let's talk. I can pay hourly or all-in.

CSS/Jekyll Template Design

We have an existing website that uses a Jekyll template, and we like the Jekyll framework. We're a small nonprofit, and the site is pretty small overall (https://iiif.io/).

This summer, we've just undertaken an effort to revise most of our web copy and update our information architecture, and at the same time we want to refresh our Jekyll theme while we're at it. We can handle the actual content migration, but we're looking for someone to help us with a Jekyll theme that reflects some static comps we've had created for us.

If it's useful to take a peek, all the code for the current site is here: https://github.com/IIIF/website

Of course, we're happy to supply other info and answer any questions.

If interested please send us a description of your experience, links to some example work, and any other info you'd like to share, and we can discuss from there.

I'm working on a submission for a new emoji character, which requires the creation of four icon-sized images: black and white, and colour, each at 72x72 px and 18x18 px. (Exact specs here.) The important thing is they need to be distinctive and clear, rather than stylish in any particular way. The character I'm submitting is a specific mammal. The work will be released with CC0 public domain license.

One-off Graphic Design Project for Button/Sticker

Hi. I've got a side project around activism and would like to produce a graphic I can use to print buttons and stickers. This is a single image/design, not a range. A concept is in place, but I lack the design skills to create great-looking print-ready art. I can pay $50 for a graphic file ready to print and I don't think it would take too long for experienced designers. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send specs!

Senior UX Designer

Are you looking to transition into the VR industry? This is a great opportunity for a flexible, outside-the-box thinker who wants to come explore the wild west of virtual reality with our design-led team at Osso VR.

We're looking for someone who can independently identify design problems to solve and craft user-centered solutions, as well as conduct their own research and usability studies.

We value diversity of thought and perspective. Women, PoC, LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented groups in tech are strongly encouraged to apply.

You are:

- User-centered first and foremost, willing to diplomatically make a case for user needs and goals
- Familiar with the landscape of VR hardware/software
- Able to show us a portfolio that demonstrates your seasoned design process
- Educated, whether that means you have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent life experience (School of Hard Knocks)
- Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Sketch, Principle, or other 2D prototyping tools
- Able to design and conduct user research at least somewhat independently, analyze the results and make recommendations (you will have help with this)
- Able to iterate quickly on tight deadlines and trade perfection for speed
- Autonomous and self-directed with empathetic communication skills
- OK with regularly looking at graphic depictions of surgery, whether it’s pictures, videos, or in VR

The products we make focus on direct hands-on interactions with physically realistic virtual environments. Our team is constantly sharing resources and talking about the latest VR design practices. We welcome you to share your skills and wisdom with the rest of the team, and learn from us in return.

Nice to haves:

- At least one VR project in your portfolio
- Familiarity with Unity and the concepts of 3D geometry, collision physics, meshes, textures etc
- Experience with VR prototyping, 3D modeling for VR, hand-tracked interactions etc
- Experience designing for 2D data visualization and/or analytics dashboards
- A background in healthcare, medical illustration, or any other relevant medical field

We want you to own the process of translating product strategy & user requirements into full-fledged user experiences. You'll be designing experiences across both 2D and 3D interfaces as user needs require it.

You will be asked to document and present your designs using whatever communicates them best: flowcharts, sketches, storyboards, gifs, video clips, prototypes, pantomiming over Skype, or maybe even inventing new ways of communicating.

You will not be expected to write code or make 3D models. (Experience in those areas is welcome, but not necessary.)

We'll provide:

- A respectable salary
- Stock options
- Health insurance (80% of your premiums are covered by us)
- Flexible work hours and location
- VR hardware and a VR-capable work computer
- Unlimited vacation/sick time
- An environment that fosters learning and growing your skills
- Career support and mentoring to write about your process and/or speak at industry events so you get credit for your hard work

We are a fully remote team distributed across three countries and five timezones. We hope that you're comfortable working remotely for now, with the option to relocate in the future once we find a city to call home.

Please include your current resume and a link to your portfolio when applying.

Fellowship to Build Tech That Fights Poverty

Blue Ridge Labs at Robin Hood is a non-profit Brooklyn-based social impact incubator created to encourage entrepreneurs, designers, and developers to build products for communities that are often overlooked by technology.

We're looking for experienced full stack engineers, designers, product managers and topic area experts to join us this summer for a paid 5 month, paid, full-time intensive incubation program at our co-working space in Brooklyn to develop tech enabled social ventures that tackle issues faced by low income folks.

This summer, we will focus on Seniors and their caregivers.

Our nation is aging rapidly, but rather than enjoying their golden years, too many seniors find themselves struggling, forced each month to choose between food, medication, or rent. And there has been an alarming rise in the number of seniors who are homeless or relying on food banks.

In New York City, the number of seniors is projected to increase to nearly 1.9 million by 2030, making it the fastest-growing population. Unfortunately, seniors struggle disproportionately with access to benefits, health issues, and affordable housing.

One out of every six seniors relies on emergency food

One out of five lives below the poverty line

One out of four has limited mobility

Many face these challenges alone. In 2014, 32 percent of persons age 65 and over, and nearly half of persons 85 and older in New York City lived alone. In addition, seniors who live alone have the second highest poverty rate (among all older households).

A complex ecosystem of benefits and support systems exists to help seniors; however, navigating and accessing these benefits can be a challenge and many forgo help. As many as one million seniors in New York are eligible for SNAP aka food stamps, but only about half are enrolled in the program.

We think technology has a role to play.

We’ve had fellows join us from Google, Facebook, Twitter, NASA, and more. They’ve founded organizations that have raised millions of dollars and helped hundreds of thousands of people.

You can find out more here: https://labs.robinhood.org/fellowship/

Web Designer/Developer

I would like someone to set up an Indexhibit-based site at a domain of mine.

Basically, I sell stuff at an etsy store, but Google hasn't been indexing my store, so I'd like to set up a site that has descriptions and pictures of the products I offer, so that Google will index it.

TEH JOB:
1) I need someone to set up Indexhibit on a server. My domain is registered via namecheap.com, so I'd like to keep hosting there.

2) I'll provide a mockup of how I'd like the site to appear. You will have to do whatever it is you web developers do on the back end, so that the front end looks the way I would like it to. It won't be that complicated -- basically, logo in top left corner, all white background, links listed on left that go to individual pages with some text and photos that scroll horizontally. I'd like to keep it clean and minimal.

3) This awesome special person will need to reformat the default Indexhibit interface so that it's easy for someone like me to go in and add pages and do whatever.

4) Help me get my site indexed by generating a sitemap, submitting it to Google Webmaster Tools, setting up a robots.txt or whatever that is, and whatever else you can think of.

BASICALLY:
You just have to set up Indexhibit, make it easy for me to use, and set up the basic appearance of the site so that all I have to do is add pages for each of my products. And the Google indexing stuff.

That's all I can think of for now. If I need more help other than what's outlined above, I'll obviously compensate you for your time.

When you email me, please tell me how many hours you estimate this will take.

THANK YE!

Webmaster

"Webmaster" is the fairly archaic job title. In fact this is closer to UI designer and content strategist. Joomla/jQuery/bootstrap. We are a small team that does everything EXCEPT server admin and maintenance to support a suite of local government websites - think elections, parks, taxes, sheriff's office, etc.

This is a full-time, on site JOB job. GREAT benefits, offices downtown Austin, TX. I suppose you could get the job and move here, but we can't pay you to do so, and there will be an in person interview required, so...

Contact me for the application link, and for any nitty gritty.

Logo for a youth soccer tournament

Our soccer club needs a logo for a 3v3 tournament we're doing in June. We're looking for something line-art-y, not something crest-y, if that makes sense. Less formal, more fun.

If you're interested, please shoot me an email with a rough cost, any ideas you might have about the design, and your timeframes. Primary color is #400000 (maroon). Payment would be made via Paypal on completion.

We'll need the artwork in vector format (PDF and/or AI, I guess). There should not be a year on it, and ideally the font used will be something that's available on a standard Windows install (or freely available) so that we can have consistent branding on all our materials. :)

Graphic Design for iOS App

Yesterday I started building an iOS app and I have limited design skills. I'm looking for a design student or similar who would be interested in helping me design the app. I have a clear sense of what the app should do and how it will do it, and I have/will have storyboarded the flow of the app. I'll want them to establish a look and feel for the app, create images where necessary, and otherwise help the app look its best.

Here's a link to the fresh github repo, which I'll be updating most weekdays:
PreferencePicker
Here's a dropbox link to the storyboard I've created so far, which I'll update as I add views and make changes.

About me: I'm a midcareer developer with significant mobile experience, but exclusively on web apps. I'm taking a few months off before I hike the Pacific Crest Trail during most of 2016. I'd like to finish the app by April 15th.
I'm building this app because:
1) I want to learn Swift
2) I'm genuinely interested in using it; I'd like to figure out which Beatles songs are my favorites, etc. (see readme in the repo)
3) "Here's the technical thing that I did during my time off, future employer!"

I do expect to put the app in the iTunes store, but I expect to put it in for free. Naturally you will be credited for your efforts, and I'll keep the source code publicly available so that you can show it off. This would be a good opportunity for a designer just starting out to work with a more experienced technical professional. If you're excited about working on it and the difference between working on it and not is a little money to make it a paid gig, I can make that happen. I'm in Seattle; if you're remote, that's totally cool.

Church website help needed to make it responsive

Our church webmaster knows basic html and I know even less. Between us we made the church website better but it's still wonky (esp on Chrome). Need a pro to help clean up the html/css, make the site fully responsive, help eliminate kludge and improve design. Feel free to check out the website and give a quote either hourly or for the project as a whole, pay guidelines below. Work remotely + Skype/email/chat ok to but happy to meet face to face if you're nearby.

Graphic Design for iOS App

We are looking for an independent graphic designer or design firm experienced with current iOS UI conventions to work on a simple utility application.

The app is based on a new interaction model, and we're looking for graphic design that can support the new model while still looking at home in iOS.

If you have a background in UX/UI, that's a great plus, but it isn't our primary need.

Ideally you'll deliver your graphics in Sketch, and you'll know how to set up the Sketch documents to export for multiple device resolutions with one click.

This is a very part-time gig -- we're looking for someone independent who can do a few hours work here and there as needed.

(note: the app is being developed within a kids educational game company but the app is not a game and we are not looking for game-style graphics.)

Character/Scene artist

Airships: Conquer the Skies is an indie game currently under development and in early access. It's a steampunk real-time strategy game where you build airships out of components and fight with them.

At this point in the development, I need a graphical artist to complement my work on the game. While I can produce pixel art for the in-game graphics, I can't create high-quality character portraits or complex scenes. This is where you come in.

What I need from you:

Character portraits as well as larger scenes of airship battles.

Ability to work within an existing colour scheme and mesh with the existing aesthetic.

Reliability and commitment to the project. I expect that the project needs graphics at various points over the next 9 months. This doesn't mean I need you anything like full-time on this, but I need you to not leave partway through. For the game to look good, it needs a consistent art style coming from one person, so switching artists halfway would be a big setback.

What I don't need from you:

In-game pixel art, animations or 3D work.

Super-fast turnaround. Taking a few weeks for a piece of art is fine, taking a few months isn't.

What I'm offering is your choice of:

Per-piece payment at your stated rates.

10% revenue share on all future sales of the game. (Revenue here means money from sales after Steam/other portals take their cut, but before anything else like taxes or other payments. The game has so far sold several thousand copies, and I very much expect it will sell at least several thousand more.)

You will also be listed as an artist in the game credits.

Selection criteria:

Quality of art / art style.

Track record of delivering for other projects, games or otherwise.

Legal details:

This is a freelancer-customer arrangement and not an employee-employer arrangement. You are responsible for taxes and insurance required by your place of residence.

As work-for-hire, the copyright of the created artwork is assigned to me.

I am happy to hire people of any background - nationality, ethnicity, gender, etc.

Interested? Contact me with samples of your work, your preferred form of compensation/rates, and some general info about yourself.

Email Newsletter Designer (contract)

We need someone to design simple emails based on an existing wireframe. We like to be efficient (we don't want to waste your time) and this is a good opportunity for somone looking to earn a little extra cash. Payment is in USD. You can be located anywhere. We work online using email, Skype, and Basecamp.

What we're really looking for is someone with a nice sense of visual style who can quickly design email newsletters for a couple of resorts in the Caribbean and provide us with the html template to upload to MailChimp.

So, we have the wireframe (we know what we want and it's not going to change) and need someone who can create pretty images that speak to our audience (families wanting a mid-upper-range vacation in the Caribbean) and can format in HTML for us to use.

This would be a small repeat monthly engagement.

Logo Designer For A Fictional 90s Kids Show

For a project I'm working on, I need a logo created for a 90s live action kids show that never existed but totally could have. If, as soon as you read that last sentence, you saw glow effects, lightning bolts, and blocky 3D, then you could be the person I'm looking for.

Obviously experience in creating logos for afterschool TV isn't required, but I need a designer who's experienced enough to take four or five real logos and (ahem) morph them into something new. Basically, I'm looking for a good designer to make me a crummy design.

Though this is a personal project unrelated to my job, I'm a creative director at an ad agency, so you don't have to worry about me jerking you around or trying to get you to do this for the "exposure". If I like your portfolio, we'll talk about details then you can send me an estimate. I'll pay half upfront and half upon completion.

The deliverable will be an Illustrator or Photoshop file of the logo in vector format. This is probably a one-time job, though I could need additional assets down the line.
