Help plan a DIY US tour for an indie stage magician type

As per this AskMefi question, I've been selected to be part of a US West Coast spoken word & performance tour in March 2020 and I'm looking to extend that to other places in the US while I'm up there.

I'm in Australia. I've lived in the US before but in the West Coast, so I'd like some assistance in figuring out how to best plan my potential tour elsewhere in a cost-effective and time-effective way. Mainly I'd like some help with working out a route and base itinerary - I can work on organising bookings, but if you can assist with that that'd be great too.

Budget is highly limited but let's chat!

Portraitist

These days, images of ourselves are constantly around us. Digital photos, video, ID cards, avatars, on and on and on. I'm documenting my life in a different way: by commissioning annual(ish) portraiture in pre-digital media (painting, printing, illustration, sculpture, film photography, etc.), in what I'm calling The Portrait Patron Project. I'm excited about the project because it both indulges my interest in portraiture and my desire to use my discretionary income to support the creation of original art.

The first portrait in the project was funded by a portion of my stimulus payment (just about the only good thing I ever got from George W. Bush) and was created last summer by limnrix, and I'm now looking to commission the next portrait in the series.

If you are interested, please email me with examples of your work, and we will discuss the possibilities and my price range. If you are not in the New York area, please let me know about your experience in working from reference (rather than a live subject). Please let me know if you have any questions.

Executive Director, Winnipeg Folk Festival

The Winnipeg Folk Festival invites applications and suggestions for the position of Executive Director, seeking an outstanding individual to lead Canada's largest and most successful folk music organization.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of the operations of the Winnipeg Folk Festival. The Board seeks a high-motivated and innovative leader, an experienced cultural administrator and fund-raiser, a passionate advocate of the Festival's mission and vision.

With one of North America's premier outdoor music festivals as its signature event, the Winnipeg Folk Festival is a year-round, not-for-profit organization presenting the best in live music, music training, and arts events, as well as operating a retail music store in Winnipeg's historicExchange District.

The first Festival was planned as a one-time celebration to mark Winnipeg's 100th anniversary in 1974. Its founder Mitch Podolak has had an enormous impact on the shape and direction of the Canadian folk music community; from 1974 to 1986 he developed the Winnipeg Folk Festival both artistically and organizationally.

Today, under the leadership of executive director Trudy Schroeder with artistic director Chris Frayer, the Festival has an annual operating budget of approximately $3.7 million, summer festival attendance exceeding 62,000, more than 2,200 active volunteers, a committed Board of Directors, and exciting plans for the future. It has evolved from a one-weekend event in July into a community asset with folk music at its heart, presenting a range of programs including education and outreach activities, a small performance
venue, and other initiatives that span the calendar year. The Festival is a well-managed, fiscally stable operation with an excellent staff.

Committed to creating "experiences of discovery and learning through the celebration of people and music," the Festival's long-term organizational goals are to enhance and develop the current summer festival site, undertaking a campaign for both capital and endowment funds, and to be such a positive force within the local community that Winnipeg will be known as the Folk Capital of Canada.

The ideal candidate has a background in arts management with a track record as executive director or senior manager in a major arts or community organization.

This position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships in the folk community, and with staff, Board members, volunteers, donors, funding agencies, the media, community partners, and the general public.

An understanding of, and an appreciation for, folk music is essential. This individual should have experience in the areas of staff and board development, strategic planning, financial management, and fund-raising, and have the capacity to seek creative solutions within a collaborative setting.

Other desired qualifications: post-graduate training in arts administration, not-for-profit management or public administration and capital campaign experience. Bilingualism would be a plus. The Festival has a strong commitment to cultural diversity and community service.

Salary commensurate with experience. Please send resume, cover letter, anda list of references by Friday, August 8th to:

Public Radio Intern: The Sound of Young America

About The Sound of Young America & MaximumFun.org

The Sound of Young America is a public radio show about things that are awesome, distributed by Public Radio International. Past guests on the show have included Terry Gilliam, Bob Odenkirk & David Cross, The Flaming Lips, Built to Spill, Chuck D, Killer Mike, Devin the Dude, They Might Be Giants, Patton Oswalt, Elmore Leonard, the creators of the television series Veronica Mars, Stella and Battlestar Galactica and others. MaximumFun.org also produces a number of succesful podcasts, including the podcast of The Sound of Young America, the talk show Jordan, Jesse GO!, and the comedy series Coyle & Sharpe: The Imposters and The Kasper Hauser Comedy Podcast. Also, we blog.

We're looking for a student with an active interest in the arts & culture, including "indie" popular music, books, television, film, comedy and so on.

Internships

The Sound of Young America is happy to capitalize on the vast potential of our nation's young people -- specifically, the vast potential of them to work for us for free. To further that end, we offer a comprehensive internship program, welcoming a student each academic semester to slave and study at our feet. (Not literally, you will get your own desk.)

Students must commit to 24 hours per week in the summer, and 20 hours per week in the winter or spring, working in our office in Los Angeles' Koreatown. We prefer students who will receive academic credit for their work. (This work incentive is our best legal substitute for our preferred arrangement, indentured servitude.) Interns should expect to work actively and directly in the production of The Sound of Young America, as well as the rest of our media empire.

Dates & Deadlines

We offer three internship periods, each approximately 3 months in length. The Fall period runs roughly from September through December, the Winter/Spring period from January through May, and the Summer period from June through August. We can make some provision for varying academic schedules as neccessary.

The Application Deadline for the fall period is August 3rd. For the Spring/Winter period it is November 15th. For the summer period it is February 15th. Decisions will be made within four weeks.

Application

Please provide a resume, along with two references, as well as a cover letter not longer than 500 words describing why you are interested in the position. Please also (briefly) list any experience you may have in radio, film/tv/internet broadcasting, or other journalism, as well as what skills you have with a computer and whether you have any experience editing video or audio.

Please submit this information in Microsoft Word format AND in the body of an email to: internships@maximumfun.org.
