Cartoon artist wanted

Hello! I have come up with text and associated doodles for five or so New Yorker-style (one panel) cartoons. I'd like to hire someone to upgrade my doodles to actual drawings, albeit still pretty simple ones. (Probably the most complex example is a small but crowded doctor's waiting room.) This is primarily for my own amusement, MAYBE as gifts to friends/family... with the slim possibility of sharing something internally within my company (someday).

I'm open to all kinds of techniques -- just want the results to look clean, consistent, and semi-professional (or better if that's how you roll!). My first thought on desired size is approximately 8.5x11 inches (but able to be shrunk down a good bit) (I think?)? I'm open to discussing any/all parameters.

Is this up your alley (or if not, would you mind sharing this with any gifted artist/cartoonist pals)?

I have zero idea what the going rates are for this kind of thing. Perhaps if you could cite me a price for the waiting room one (I can provide my doodle for guidance), and share a few examples of your drawings/cartoons that show your typical style, that might be the easiest way to start? I'm absolutely open to other approaches that would work best for you. If we're a good fit there's a good chance there will be more to come.

Thank you!

Art Commission for Fiasco RPG Playset

I've written a Fiasco Playset that I'd like to self publish (via a creative commons license). I'm satisfied with my writing and layout skills, but I'd really like to commission a striking cover that's in tune with the style of other playsets that are out there.

I'd be quite happy with a Saul Bass poster* style cover if it conveys the gist of my playset, but I'd also be happy to entertain other styles. The topic of the playset is very specific (contract archaeology), and I'd like that to be easily recognized by anyone who's worked in the field. Mostly, that involves featuring things like hi-vis vests, hard hats and trowels.

I'd like sign off on a final version by the end of August.

(*This style is strongly associated with the game)

Freelance VFX artist for feature film

Help finish a low budget sci-fi/indie feature! Many shots of greenscreen compositing as well as some "lasers" and stuff. Nothing too crazy, no Gollums or Jar-Jar Binkses.

The right person will be a highly competent freelancer, not a company, and excited about being the sole artist on a feature film. Should be willing to work collaboratively with the director via screenshare or in person.

Target audience is major film festivals and hopefully distribution from there.

Character/Scene artist

Airships: Conquer the Skies is an indie game currently under development and in early access. It's a steampunk real-time strategy game where you build airships out of components and fight with them.

At this point in the development, I need a graphical artist to complement my work on the game. While I can produce pixel art for the in-game graphics, I can't create high-quality character portraits or complex scenes. This is where you come in.

What I need from you:

Character portraits as well as larger scenes of airship battles.

Ability to work within an existing colour scheme and mesh with the existing aesthetic.

Reliability and commitment to the project. I expect that the project needs graphics at various points over the next 9 months. This doesn't mean I need you anything like full-time on this, but I need you to not leave partway through. For the game to look good, it needs a consistent art style coming from one person, so switching artists halfway would be a big setback.

What I don't need from you:

In-game pixel art, animations or 3D work.

Super-fast turnaround. Taking a few weeks for a piece of art is fine, taking a few months isn't.

What I'm offering is your choice of:

Per-piece payment at your stated rates.

10% revenue share on all future sales of the game. (Revenue here means money from sales after Steam/other portals take their cut, but before anything else like taxes or other payments. The game has so far sold several thousand copies, and I very much expect it will sell at least several thousand more.)

You will also be listed as an artist in the game credits.

Selection criteria:

Quality of art / art style.

Track record of delivering for other projects, games or otherwise.

Legal details:

This is a freelancer-customer arrangement and not an employee-employer arrangement. You are responsible for taxes and insurance required by your place of residence.

As work-for-hire, the copyright of the created artwork is assigned to me.

I am happy to hire people of any background - nationality, ethnicity, gender, etc.

Interested? Contact me with samples of your work, your preferred form of compensation/rates, and some general info about yourself.

Board Game Art (Sci-Fi)

I have a board game in beta, set to kickstart sometime between February and April of next year. I need an artist to help me out. I will need to buy several pieces of art to use during the campaign (budget of a few hundred dollars). After the game is fully funded, I can get the game fully illustrated. The game will require ~120 card sized (~2.5"X1.5") pieces of art, in addition to some box art, and other larger drawings for other components.

The game is a highly asymmetrical political semi-co-op with a sci-fi setting. There are lots of great board games about winning elections (1960, Die Macher, Tammany Hall), but not a lot about what happens next; trying to rule together for the common good while having radically different agendas. This game is about 6 very different species that have varying designs for the galaxy, and how they manage to get along without destroying everything (or not). Plenty of information about the game, including current play-testing materials, available upon request.

As said above, I'm looking for a few hundred dollars in art now. After the kickstarter, I'm looking for something like $50/card + the other art. That puts the post-funding total at roughly $7000. This is negotiable.

Ecommerce web designer

I am a designer and illustrator and would like to start selling my prints online. I have no e-commerce experience and I'm looking for a web designer to built the site for me, ASAP.

To give you an idea of what I am looking for, please take a look at Wayne Pate website - while the designs I have prepared for my site are different from Wayne's, the navigation and level of complexity are going to be very similar.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you think you could help.

Many thanks,

Storyboard/Comic book artist

I need a competent, quick working storyboard or comic book artist to produce approximately 50-60 frames of storyboard, which will be used to construct a 10-minute teaser DVD to pitch a movie I will direct. The film is neo-noir and I'm looking for artwork in the style of SLEEPER, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and similar graphic novels. It doesn't have to be highly finished (ie inked or coloured) but it does need to be dynamic and gritty. You'll be working from a detailed script which I will supply. I'll need the artwork by early January and we will have to do some character concepts first.

I have about $1500 of my own money to spend on this so we'll need to calibrate the quality of the artwork to the time and money available. I have realistic expectations (I've done this before with other professional artists).

In the first instance all I need to see is some relevant examples of your work - if it lights my candle we can take it from there. Emphasis on relevant -- it needs to be storyboard or graphic novel style.

The DVD will be going to A-list Hollywood producers and talent and obviously if everything works out there's a chance of a lot more work.

Cheers!

Sequential (Comic) Artist

Required: one relatively experienced sequential (comic) artist to work on a 3-4 page story in black and white, with inking and lettering.

Finished product will be printed in an anthology comic in Australia but, this being the internet, the artist does not need to be located here.

If you are interested, please email sequential samples to the address below so that your "fit", for want of a better word, can be determined. I can then email you the script and you can decide if it's something you would like to work on.

I would ideally be expecting a page per week, but this is open to discussion. Rate per page is negotiable but I do have a modest upper limit (however, it is above AU$60pp).

little outlines of spaceships

Hello Artists of MetaFilter!

I am commissioning a ring for my wife and inside I want to put little drawings of spaceships. Well known fictional spaceships. The woman making the jewelry assures me that her engraver can trace anything more or less but these will have to be pretty simplified silhouettes.

Just hi-res electronic versions are fine, no actual ink-stained paper necessary.

I actually have no idea what fair pay is for this, so make me an offer. If I think its fair I'll take it.

Graphic/Storyboard artist for movie project

In the next few months I'm going to need someone to do some storyboards and concept art to help me sell a movie I intend to direct (screenplay is written and what we'll be working off). It will be used in part to edit a teaser similar to this one I made a couple of years ago.

I'm looking for something with a powerful neo-noir graphic novel kind of feel. Sean Philips' work on SLEEPER is a good reference.

We won't be storyboarding the whole movie, just telling it in a capsule. I will provide full direction and a script if necessary.

In the first instance all I need is a link to your portfolio and a hint at what I should look at first. You certainly don't need to have experience in this particular medium but a strong, gritty, striking comic book style is essential.

Cover Illustrator for the Metafilter Collaborative Novel

The Metafilter Collaborative Novel (originally announced here) is almost done and it's steadily racing towards an Easter release as a free gift to the Metafilter community. It's currently in the editing phase but what it really needs before it's released is an awesome front cover... and that's where you come in.

We're looking for a talented artist from the Metafilter community who is willing to donate their time and their skills to the Collaborative Novel project. Applicants would send me some examples of their work (either via e-mail or links to your online portfolio) which I would then send on to the other writers. We'll then decide whose work we think suits the theme and tone of the novel the best and we'll then have a successful candidate. That person then gets a copy of the novel in its current form sent to them to read, to help inspire their work.

This is a volunteer position but the successful applicant would have their work seen and hopefully appreciated by the Metafilter community at large once the novel is digitally released at Easter. You will, of course, retain full rights to your work.
