You're festidious about detail, have an eye for design, are a dab hand with Photoshop, care about usability, accessibility, semantics, information architecture and, importantly, making things that work well using best practices. Moreover, you enjoy doing all of this stuff, and would like to do it on big boy web sites, for clients like Coca-Cola, Orange and eBay. Design skills are a plus, but we're more concerned with your programming skill than your abilities as a designer. We want someone located in the NYC area. Loud Dog is seeking a Senior Front-end Web Developer to take a lead role coding standards-compliant XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. We're looking for someone we get along with, who really enjoys coding, and who is passionate about the web.

We're looking for someone who can tell us:

What semantic coding is and why it's important;
How CSS allows you to separate style and form on the web;
When it's appropriate to use tables and when it's not;
Why the DOM matters;
What AJAX is and what it isn't;
Where the gray areas are in these questions.

And who is:

Passionate about front-end development (really, we aren't joking - we aren't looking for PHP jocks or visual designers);
An organized self-starter;
Good with deadlines;
Effective under pressure;
Great at communicating and working with teams;

In terms of skills, you:

Have mad skillz with X/HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the DOM (you know it back and forth, up and down, inside and out);
Have worked with database-driven, dynamically generated web sites as well as static "brochure" sites;
Have authored DHTML widgets and can speak knowledgably about AJAX;
Understand the requirements and techniques for building accessible web sites;
Are familiar with both Macs & PCs (though you'll get to choose what you work on when you're hired), the browsers on each and the constraints imposed by each browser;
Have experience with both Photoshop and Fireworks (we primarily use Fireworks, but also work with Photoshop).

You'll be doing a whole bunch of things:

Creating XHTML and CSS templates based on comps provided by our design team;
Providing input to designers to help them understand technical constraints and opportunities;
Working closely with back-end engineers to insure that your templates work within larger systems;
Understanding implied and unexpressed client and user needs and proactively addressing them;
Examining and understanding existing websites and integrating new pages, styles and rules into them, and
Creating front-end deliverables.

Web Design Instructor

WEB DESIGN INSTRUCTOR Teach web design classes (up to 14 students) using our curriculum. We are an evolving web design program in the Boston area that trains students in standards based design methods. Train students how to handcode pages using Xhtml and CSS positioning. Have a familiarity with Dreamweaver and be a Photoshop whiz. Lead discussions on elements of design and industry “best practices” for creating standards based websites. Qualifications for this position - The candidate for this job must have superior organization skills. Preparing academic curriculum and developing lesson plans is an important part of this position. Documented teaching/training experience is helpful although flexible based on the individual. - Be comfortable with handcoding websites using validated xhtml and css. - Familiarity with Dreamweaver 8 very helpful. - Must have a professional portfolio documenting your work. These qualifications are not required but put you at the head of the list:- Familiarity with Javascript, PHP and Flash. - Currently part of a web design practice in Boston or it's environs.
