Digital Media Developer
August 17, 2011 11:53 AM

Statesman Journal Media is seeking a Digital Media Developer who loves finding solutions to “what if” questions.

If you’re talented, responsible, innovative, digitally awesome and a code archeologist (i.e. geekier-yet-cooler version of Indiana Jones), you’ll fit in just fine at the Statesman Journal. We’re seeking an all-digital developer who can do it all. The Statesman Journal has a well-earned national reputation for knowing how to do innovative digital projects. We’re fiercely competitive and uniquely Oregon, and the successful candidate will embrace working and living in Salem. Don’t waste our time unless you’re committed to working hard and loving small city life.

EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years experience. Web development using PHP or similar language; database design and ability to write SQL queries; familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems and web server software; experience programming web applications using XML and AJAX; strong abilities in CSS, JavaScript and the DOM. Experience developing solutions for emerging platforms such as smartphones and tablets.

EDUCATION: Should have some college-level training in SQL database design and maintenance and a web programming language.

OTHER STUFF NOT COVERED IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION: Ability to juggle competing demands from multiple departments; Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience; Thrives in a chaotic (yet exciting) environment; treats deadlines as a motivation, not an obstacle; loves receiving praise for doing work that makes the bosses look smart and visionary.

Don’t bother applying unless we can see your resume online and examples of your work. Email a 200-word cover letter and link to Digital Editor Amy Read or Tweet it to @AmyReadSJ
