Assistant Professor -- Writing for Sciences/Health Professions

Two full-time tenure-track 9-month positions
Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI
Position Summary
Responsibilities include teaching 12 hours of upper and lower-level writing for the sciences and technical writing and/or composition. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), assessment activities and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance.
The successful candidate will teach face-to-face and on-line classes in advanced writing for the health professions, technical communication, as well as additional writing courses appropriate to qualifications.
Required Qualifications
-- Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or related field.
(Must have Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2015)
-- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate professional writing
Additional Qualifications to Be Considered
Preference given to candidates with experience teaching technical, health sciences, professional and/or scientific writing and with some experience writing in the health sciences/professional/
technical/document design fields.
Additional preference for further experience or education in proposal writing, business writing, and multimedia writing and design.
Essential Duties
-- Teach face-to-face and on-line classes of upper and lower-level technical writing and/or composition per semester and hold regular (a 4/4 annual teaching load)
-- Participate in ongoing professional development and service
-- Participate in curriculum development
-- Contribute to the ongoing development of the department through administration, committee work, community outreach, leadership, and scholarship
-- Effective teaching applying clear communication, assessment of student learning and adaptation to various levels of student preparation
-- Provide up-to-date coursework and course-related materials
-- Use teaching-related technologies when determined appropriate
-- Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment
-- Meet with classes at their scheduled times
