Front End Web Developer
May 24, 2013 4:56 PM

Small web development shop in the Bay Area (California) seeks a front-end web developer to work on multiple well-funded projects over the next 6 months, mostly in the non-profit and education worlds. We're a fun, small, open-source-loving shop. This is a full-time contract (1099) job, requiring at least two days a week on-site in an office near BART in Berkeley; telecommuting up to half-time is fine as long as the job gets done.

We'd like to work with someone who pays attention to the important details, and has good organizational and communication skills.

The successful candidate will have experience with the following, using both tools and hand-coding/debugging:

- Javascript, including jquery
- CSS
- standards-based/valid XHTML and HTML
- transforming comps to working templates/web pages
- responsive design

Experience in the following is helpful, but not required (as long as you can learn on the job):

- Linux/FreeBSD hosts running PHP 5 and MySQL (LAMP)
- version control - subversion/SVN and/or git
- ecommerce packages: Zen Cart, Magento
- mapping: Google Maps, mapserver, OpenStreetMap, etc.
- CMSs: Wordpress, Drupal
- Video on Demand: HLS and h.264 players
- HTML5 apps

Much of the job will consist of creating or debugging Javascript and CSS to enhance the interactivity of websites, as well as translating comps into templates for newer sites and fixing code on older sites.

To apply, reply to this posting with your resume and pointers to work you're proud of. All experience levels encouraged to apply.
